Haste makes Waste!

ARRGGHH. I was just finishing a custom item that had taken me 3.5 hours to make. Doing the final pressing, and didn't grab my pressing cloth, and burned a hole in it! Ugggh. Back to the beginning. 3.5 hours of my life - gone. Expensive fabric - ruined. I've found that whenever I try to rush it almost always takes me longer. Anybody else have a similar experience?

Today actually... I was making a card... I was sitting and admiring the "completed" project and when I went to open it I realized I had completed it upside down so the card opened on the wrong side... and of course I had run out of that color paper so I couldn't even make it again if I wanted to... AND then as I was completing another card I got a paper cut and left a blood smear... it has not been a very productive day... : /

Luckily beads are more forgiving...all I usually ruin is a few inches of wire. Still...with silver and gold the prices they are these days...eventually those few inches add up. Can you salvage any of the fabric for a different project?

Christa, It's good you caught that before you shipped it! And a paper cut to boot - man o man. Melanie, I should have salvaged the left over fabric, but I was so disgusted with my self that I tossed it. I'm still so mad about it. All that work ruined, and all had to do to avoid it was walk 10 steps away to get my pressing cloth before starting to press the piece. Just a really stupid stupid stupid mistake.

Hey, I know about spending hours on something and it being wasted!

Try creating the perfect spreadsheet for your inventory that you spend hours upon hours updating (and clicking SAVE every so often so that your work is saved) but because I opened it after e-mailing it to myself, it didn't save it on the hard drive! Argghh! Like you said, hours of my life I'll never get back. I was SO mad!

Re: Haste makes Waste!

I have done that kind of thing before. However I have been completing my pieces more recently at a slower pace even if they are gifts. You can always make your piece again and making quality items at cost sometimes will help you in the long run. You may even get returning customers.

I find that sometimes when I take the pace out I make items more effortlessly.

Happy crafting.

Felt so bad, just had to write....can't have the time back, dangit, but seems there is always a reason for those things to happen. Perhaps something even better will come as a result=) Best wishes!!

Re: Haste makes Waste!

Thanks, guys. I took the rest of the night off, played in the yard with my kids, and then snuggled in bed with them and read books. And promptly fell asleep at 8:30pm! So, I'm feeling better, and I'm going to force myself to slow down, and try not to stress out about getting everything done that I want to. Thanks for the support! You guys are the best!
