HELP, I'm addicted!!

Hi. My name is Judy & I'm an Etsy-holic. TRULY. I can't stop! I'm tweaking my shop constantly, sometimes for hours on end! I'm "Tweeting" (and I don't even LIKE Twitter!)...I'm posting on Facebook...and I'm blogging! Oh my GOODNESS, I'm neglecting my HUSBAND! Is there any hope for me?? Or is this a given? Can you relate?

LOL I think this is definitely a given! I have to force myself not to think about Etsy, but I'm definitely getting better about it!

Each morning I promise myself I'm just going to make a quick check for 5 minutes... next thing I know, 2 hours have passed, my bladder is ready to burst, and yet, I still say... just one more minute!

Oh yes, I can relate.

It used to be my sewing machines that distracted me from family life.
Now, it's the internet that distracts me from my sewing machines!!

So true, My poor family has to eat, the dog needs to go out, the laundry needs to get done. I guess it is better if you put limits on your work day. And End when you say you will. My son just said, you said you were going to stop an hour ago ughhhhh. Oh well. Time to eat ha ha ha

It definitely is addictive. Someone needs to start an Etsy therapy office. My problem is that we also have a real life gallery to keep going, so it's a juggle that's invisible to the online world. For example, anyone who looks at TaylorArts.etsy.com sees that I only had a dozen sales in the last few months, when in reality I just sold another 35 items of my art worth a couple thousand dollars in my gallery TODAY! I look like a loser online even when I'm doing great in the real world. I wish their was a way to say that something sold on Etsy even when it didn't sell to an Etsy buyer. Oh well. (P.S. Your husband should be happy for your sales dedication, so maybe he won't mind TOO much.)

I am addicted too, I was constantly going on etsy when I was not working. I try now to only spend certain amounts of time on etsy. Like maybe the evening or after my cleaning. :) Sometimes I have to shut the computer completely down. I love Etsy! Also some people I noticed in there shops will say like I have been selling art at a gallery for so many years or something to that effect. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. It is interesting to me to read profiles and see what else people have done. :)

Yes, I can totally relate & it seems as though my shop is always on my mind, even when I'm not online. You see so many successful shops on Etsy and you want soooo much to be one of them. So, it takes alot of thought and time. My husband definitely feels neglected. He's to the point now, where he pouts everytime I go online. (Poor Baby! LOL) I'm hoping that once I get my shop looking the way I want, there will be more time for other interest outside of Etsy. Fingers crossed!

Hah! I KNEW I wasn't alone!!! The truth is: I have a WONDERFUL husband who supports my efforts 100%. Nice to know that he *luffs* me enough to wanna BE with me!! (Now GET the heck off of that computer!!!!) ;-)

Wow, I'm not alone! :) I too, have a shop here in the real world, which I should be busy working at, on a full time basis.............but, darned if I'm not sucked into my shop, others' shops, and there goes hours & hours.

I am learning so much, and having such a good time, but I do need to remember my current clients who do expect their orders.....eventually!

Nice to know I'm not the only one enamored with Etsy!

I'm currently a stay-at-home mom and I am on here for hours! I am in sooo much trouble when I go back to work. My husband says Etsy is my porn :)

For me it's a vicious circle... slow sales --> more time in the forums/teams --> less time making items/promoting --> slow sales --> more time in the forums/teams......

And I'm always saying that I'll schedule an hour (ONLY) into each day for Etsying, blogging, and promoting.... but I'm also always saying I'll go to the gym. One day my boyfriend and his more successful small business will give me the kick in the rear I need to get off the forums and get crafting/promoting.

So can relate to what you are saying. I try to limit myself each a.m. to take a quick look at ETSY......turns into hours. Yeeecks! So much fun and so relaxing. Your shop is awesome!

It will eventually wear off ;)
If not, start imagine ur hubby in etsy stuff, u may get more attracted to him ;)

I'm terribly addicted too, but very limited computer/technology-wise at the moment. That will have to change and very soon! My dinosaur desktop is dying and has been for a while, only it's getting worse by the day now. Will be replacing it this week, so I will be busy promoting my shop to get those funds! But it's going to be very slow and very hard with a very slow and very hard on my sanity computer.... No kidding, getting a picture out of my camera and then editing it took 35 minutes tonight. For ONE picture! Adobe PSE took 16 minutes to open...sigh!

My very basic and cheap old (5yrs!) Samsung cell phone is half-dead, so I can hear people but they can't hear me. I was using my husband's newer basic flip-phone to relist sold items (it won't renew) and then Etsy changed their listing page. It's doesn't work anymore, lol! So, a new desktop and ohhhhh yes, an Android phone to replace mine. Fast and reliable technology is a must have if you are an Etsy addict!

You're absolutely right, Lisi. It's so hard though because technology is changing by the MINUTE! As soon as you're caught up, they come up with the "newer" version. Tough times! Anyway, like I promised, I'm outta here. I finished my Treasury (which I had completed about 3 hours ago but while I was taking a break, the internet decided to BUMP me and I hadn't saved my items into the Treasury ... so guess what. I had to start ALL OVER again, which of course meant several more hours on the computer!!! I really think I'm obsessed! (And maybe a little POSSESSED, lol) Have a good night. I totally relate to just checking out my shop while I have my morning coffee.....and the next thing I know it is time for lunch! I am still fairly new....and have not been thru a holiday season.....but I really need time to make product!
