I get some really strange ones as well.

"mannikin" is one of the more common ones so I've started using the misspelling as a tag.

That's interesting, I've wondered myself about deliberately misspelling tags. I use my name as a brand and I sometimes get hits for Ann for example.

I got one once, it was something like "blue changes to purple". I had no idea what that was about.

Regarding misspellings, I use some misspelled words as tags. Like, I have vintage telegraph insulators made by Hemingray, but a lot of people search for Hemingway with a w.

and other one was paper 3D birthday!


I only use birthday in my tags and 3d is in few of my descriptions, but I'm quite sure they were not looking for jewelry!

I put Worme Woole and WormeWool in my tags on purpose because people type those when looking for my shop.

My shop name is pronouced "Warm Wool" and is a play on my last name (which is pronounced like warm without the W). I added the e to Wool to be an old fashioned spelling...but all of this is hard for people to "get" :D

I love when people type in, "Looking for a ceramic squirrel bowl" or "I need cat eye sunglasses."

It's like they're talking directly to me! Always makes me giggle.

I think it is a great idea to tag a common misspelling, if you have tags left to use.

Just a suggestion regarding spelling issues with your name or shop name...
My shop name is a misspelling of photographs to match my name, and after not being able to find my webpage after accidentally typing in the correct spelling of "photographs" - I ended up registrating two domain names. The correct spelling of my shop, and one with the correct spelling of photographs, which is redirected automatically to the first webpage.

You can do the same with tagging you shop name to your items.

The oddest one I can think of right now was a search for 'Scotland'. I had to figure that one out and narrowed it down to my listing for ScotchGard that is an addon to my items. That poor person had to wonder why she got a listing for ScotchGard with her search.....

I think people have just started coming back to shopping as we have had so many favs and interest today.
However we did get a very rude thankfully mis-spelt inquiry about a stone that I will definitely not be using as. There is a gemstone called Kunzite and the person obviously thought it was pronounced and spelt with a 'c' and a 't' in it and I had had the very awkward duty of correcting their spelling and informing the of its everyday true and very G rated pronunciation..... Fun times on etsy :s

Sometimes spelling mistakes aren't really mistakes, they just seem like it to US- based sellers. Using the British spelling of words like "jewellery" for example, can help with hits from outside search engines.

On your shop stats page. That said, I am part of the Shop Stat Beta Team so my own stats page has lots more features than the normal ones and I'm not sure how much of it is available to everyone yet.

I sell cards and stationery sets and I almost always include the tag "stationary" with "stationery" and every now and then I get a hit because I've included the misspelled word! If you have room in tags, include it! You may find yourself in a niche market! :)

Well this all explains "buy porcelin bead dish" which still worked for who ever put it in there enough to get them my work. Though I'd still like to know what a porcelain bead dish is. ;)

Today I was found on Google by someone searching for "arabix rubber stamp". Google apparently intuited what they actually wanted and sent the person my way. Seeing the word "Arabix" in my stats made me laugh! :)
