Google Analytics

I have seen a few people on here refer to using google analytics or google ad words.

My question is, if you don't own your own website, (only using etsy) how can you utilize these tools?

I have been stuck in a funk and not really working too much on my store recently. I need some new ideas and new inspiration! I have all this product and no one who is interested in buying it! :(

Re: Google Analytics

Etsy has special instructions for using analytics with your shop here: http://www.etsy.com/help/article/230

When you set this up, GA will still try to give you the code to manually install on a website. Just ignore that part and keep following the instructions I linked to. Hope that helps!

Re: Google Analytics

I put together a page that consolidates a whole bunch of data analysis resources.

The chalk boards are cool. Do you have a FB page? What are you doing to promote your store?

Re: Google Analytics

windowbythesea,

Thank you so much for your question. I’ve wondered about GA as well. Etsy warns users to refrain from sharing passwords with outside applications. I’ve hesitated to use the Google Analytics service for this reason. Am I concerned for no reason?

Re: Google Analytics

@ reduxvintage - GA doesn't ask for your Etsy password.... why has that stopped you from using it? There is no security reason to refrain from using GA. If Etsy recommends it as a trusted site then you should have no worries.

Re: Google Analytics

@daintychain thank you for your response.

What stopped me from using it is the disclaimer that says
“etsy does not endorse or guarantee any third-party applications”

It asked for our gmail password which is connected to etsy.

I’m new to etsy, and not tech savvy, so I’m glad to hear that you are confident in the service.

Re: Google Analytics

Google is definitely trustworthy. I think Etsy is more concerned about unknown and unqualified third party applications that may be phishing for your information so they can spam you, or even engage in identity theft. Google is NOT that kinda business, I can assure you.

You can create a separate google account just for your analytics if you're at all concerned about linking your existing gmail account with analytics. Google doesn't care which email you use to set up the separate account, as long as it's a confirmed email address.

So you could make a completely new gmail account, link it to the new analytics account and keep everything separate. You can even have the new email account forward to your old gmail so you don't even have to check your new account (if you're lazy like me lol!)

Re: Google Analytics

Yes I have also been a bit confused about GA. I set up my account and have GA running, but I'm not quite sure how to use it, if that makes sense. Like what tools and useful info can I get from GA and where?

Re: Google Analytics

I just noticed that you asked about adwords too. I just started a small adwords test campaign for my etsy shop.

You don't need a stand alone shop to promote, and web address that you would like to promote including an etsy shop can be promoted using adwords.

Re: Google Analytics

I love GA, it shows where my web traffic is coming from, when, the keywords used to search, and so much more. I was hesitant at first too, but I love it now.
