Re: Google Analytics

I found this post helpful--http://www.etsy.com/storque/seller-handbook/community-advice-tagging-woes-12634/ But really I'm chiming in here because while Craftopolis results seem more relevant to my site, I don't understand the "Page found on" column and what it means in the Tag Report and I was hoping someone would explain.

Re: Google Analytics

ok 1st - Google Analytics:

Unfortunately, the keyword results that The search engine report gives are mostly innacurate when you are not syndicated ( i have still to confirm if when you are, this improves)

that is because GA is giving you the keywords that brought them to Etsy.com , not necessarily your page... after they enter the Etsy thru the link that the query, lets say is, "blue suede shoes" they keep browsing stuff until they happen to see one of your items , click on it..... and now you see it in your report.
A more useful feature is SITE SEARCH under the CONTENT menu. Try it out, follow the steps to activate it. What that one does is give you the keywords people have used on Etsy's search and found your product, they are 99% more accurate!

2nd- Craftopolis Page found on: thats just telling you that with that keyword it was found on that number page on Etsy's search & type for example:

Search type: Vintage
Search term: purple, dress
Page found on: 4

That means that your listing was found by the user when searching using the words "purple dress" in the search category "vintage" and it was shown on page 4.... it doesnt mean it has been clicked on... just in what position are those tags showing your item in search results

Re: Google Analytics

@hautecards-- thanks! This is clearing things up a bit-- here what I thought were hits actually mean that many of my items are buried...or maybe it just says that people do look through many pages on etsy, which is interesting in itself.

Re: Google Analytics

@hautecards-- when I look at the site search feature on Google analytics it asks

"Does your site have a search engine?

Yes: Learn how to set up Site Search reporting.

No: Learn how to set up a Google site search engine on your website."
In the case of an etsy shop, which is the right answer?
Thanks!

-------------
I found this on this original thread from the craftopolis people, they say it means that craftoplis cannot what page because the type of search it was done, it didnt produce a page number...

••••••••••••

Craftopolis says:

Yea, good question. It means I don't know the page it was found on. The are a couple of ways of searching on Etsy. There is the search box on the top right hand corner, and there is Advance Search and Categories in the Buy section. For some reason Etsy does not report in their URL the page number found on some types of searches.

Re: Google Analytics

@feralstrumpet --- You have to say yes, because your shop is under Etsy.com, and Etsy has a search engine :)

I found the step by step from Etsy here:

Re: Google Analytics

There's also to note, that happened to me and now I know why...

If you activate Search Site the way Etsy has it setup (read the storque link above) , then you WONT be able to have results on the Tag Reports tab from Craftopolis.

It sucks, but I guess you have to decide which one is better for you.

Re: Google Analytics

Check that you put your Web ID (that is given to you by Google in your profile) in your Etsy shop.

You find where to put the Web ID got to:

1. Your Main Account page
2. Under Shop Setting, click options
3. Click the tab that says Web Analytics
4. Enter your Web ID on the field, and save.
