Gift Certificates

I had noticed a couple shops offering gift certificates which I think is a great idea, especially for the holidays. Anyone know anything about this? I did a search for gift certificates on Etsy's Help and the only thing that came up is that they're not offered them at this time.. wondering how those shops are working their gift certificates.

What I've seen sellers do is make them for a particular dollar amount, explain how the gift certificate will arrive (via email or snail mail), and mention that it's not valid for any other shop on Etsy. I've also heard to make sure you set up your shop to accept "Other" as a method of payment - that way you can put a super secret redemption code on each gift certificate that the recipient can enter in "Notes" at checkout. There is a blog about this on Etsy with some lovely examples, but I'm not sure exactly where... Maybe try searching the Etsy Blog? Or maybe another Etsy Success member knows it...

I'm just creating some GCs tonight actually to test out to see if it's worth offering in the future!

It's excatly as LitKnits explained, you create a listing for a set amount and explain how it works, it's only valid for your shop, etc.

Etsy does have a rule that they have to be purchasing something..whether it's a digital GC emailed to them or an actual item mailed.
