Getting views for unusual vintage items

I've grouped together vintage records, based on cover art, as sets. I think they make great wall/decorative art and am selling them as that. However, the two sets I have up so far haven't generated many views, and no favorites. (One was even in a treasury which didn't seem to make a noticeable difference in views.) I'm not sure if there's a way to make these "pop" more, or if it's just a lack of interest in the kind of item.

Tagging has been tricky, as the "decorative" category is so broad, and the more specific labels don't quite fit. What are some tags that would come to mind for you, if you were shopping for conversation-starting wall art you didn't know you needed?

Also, I've been trying to decide what's the best approach for the first photo on these. I did originally have closeups of the most interesting album cover as my thumbnail, but now I'm trying out the photos of the whole set to see if that gets more clicks.

I know these aren't for everyone, so I'm not expecting them to fly off the shelves, but I was hoping they would generate more buzz than they have been. If anyone has experience generating views for unusual items, I'd love suggestions. I've got 6 more sets, plus some decorative 8 track sets, to list, but I want to make sure I'm going about it the right way. See below for the two I have up so far.

Re: Getting views for unusual vintage items

maybe try using the musicians' names? retro, record, the style of music featured on the records, etc.

some of your tags may be too specific - you might suggest it as a "unique wall hanging", but thats not necessarily what someone would type in if they were looking for these treasures! tagging can definitely be tough; i usually try & put myself in my buyers shoes as best possible.

what would happen if you maybe split the records up & listed as individuals?

best of luck! :D

ps - love your banner!

Re: Getting views for unusual vintage items

I agree...listing them individually may help to bring more focus on them...sometimes if things are too "cluttered" looking, people get overwhelmed and don't seem interested in it...
Titles can help people find you too...like strungoutjewerly said, try listing them with the artist name, something like the artist name, type of music and maybe the color of the album.
love your banner too!

Re: Getting views for unusual vintage items

I think this is a really cool idea--I love the sets and the way you have themes. Maybe call them Album Cover Art? Also point out in your description something like these are a fun thing to collect and easy inexpensive wall decor.

Maybe your titles should be shorter--something like "Moxie on the Move, Album Cover Art".

Stick with it--people will find you. And you now have a heart on Moxie on the Move because I love it.

Re: Getting views for unusual vintage items

I posted my other 6 album art sets, taking into account some of your suggestions. I guess I will just keep on keeping on with them and hope they each eventually attract the right person. : )

I've got longer tags/titles because that adds more words for someone to find the item if they search. They don't need to search for the exact phrase of a tag, just a word in it for it to come up. Sometimes I worry a little about my tags... like on the "Weakness" set, I have "rotary dial phone" as a tag, because one of the albums has a picture of one. If someone was looking for wall art with a rotary phone, they would find my item. However, so would someone looking for an actual rotary phone. Hopefully not too frustrating...

See below for the new ones, I'd love suggestions.

(I believe I have to do each of these as a separate post or it won't show a picture of the link... sorry for the high number of posts.)

Re: Getting views for unusual vintage items

Do any other sellers out there have techniques for creating buzz for unusual items (especially vintage)? I'm working on these record sets that don't fit neatly into categories, nor are they items many shoppers would search for. However, I think a lot of shoppers will enjoy looking at them, if they stumble across them. The question is how to increase those stumbles... how to create more tripping hazards, if you will. :)
