Getting traffic but no sales.

Hello Everyone,
I am a newbie and have been reading all the great suggestions. I have been receiving steady traffic . . .however, I am not experiencing any sales. Wondering if I have missed something in my set-up. . . titles. . . tags. . . your thoughts, advise and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

CountryCents, try working on your titles and tags. You should use the most likely searched for terms in the beginning of your title, and be sure to repeat those phrases in your tags. And make sure you use all your tags - each one is a possible search term that buyers may use to find you. You may be getting a lot of views by people browsing and stumbling upon your pretty work - but what you want are the buyers that are specifically searching for what you've got.

For example your little pumpkin sachet. First if all you have it listed under 'everything else' - that's truly a catch-all category for indescribable things. Wouldn't housewares be better? Or Holidays?

The first word in your title is 'pumpkin' - there are acres of pumpkins out there this time of year and it's too broad. Describe precisely what the item is. Think of it as if you owned a physical store - if someone walked in the door looking for your item, what would they as for? I think a better title might be

" Pumpkin Sachet, Balsam Scent Hand Stitched Sachet, Autumn Home Decor, Orange Bowl Filler"

With the tags

pumpkin sachet, balsam scent sachet, balsam sachet, autumn sachet, autumn home decor, orange pumpkin, orange, orange bowl filler, fall decor, thanksgiving, holiday decor, halloween, hand stitched sachet.

In my opinion, I wouldn't waste valuable tags on team tags unless absolutely necessary.

And keep in mind, that even with views, it often takes some time to get those first few sales. Hang in there, and good luck!

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

Definitely take a look at your tags. Use all of them, and try to include synonyms for your products. Not everyone searches for the same thing in the same ways. Also, phrases tend to do better than single words.

For example, you might also call a pillow a cushion, or you might include the materials and say "cotton pillow". Hope this helps!

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

jwakeman, you have awesome tags - but man cannot live by tags alone! What happened to your titles? (Admittedly, I only looked at one, so this may not apply to your whole shop) But that awesome pearl necklace! Titled simply 'pearl necklace' ? Look at the tags you've used - they are great descriptors and really set your item apart. Add some of those to your title so that you will show up in specific searches. It's nice to turn up on page one of the search for 'pearl necklace' but I'm gonna guess it's next to impossible.

Try:

Triple Strand Pearl Necklace, Silver Gray Freshwater Pearl Necklace.

Or:

Freshwater Pearl Necklace, Triple Strand, Silver Gray

And repeat those phrases (and variations of them) in your tags. Words like 'safety clasp' are probably a waste of a tag - will people search for that? It belongs more in your materials. And don't go overboard with words like 'elegant' unless you have evidence from your keywords in your shop stats that people are using them to find your items.

You're on the right track - If you can come up with great tags like you did, you just have to adjust your titles! Good Luck!

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

Thank you so much rrizzart and mizufusion! I thought my titles might need work and my tags are still very generic. I will be working on these over the weekend. I truly appreciate your advise!

I would try working on some of the pictures too. And remember, if you are on a lot of teams you will have a lot of traffic from the people there. So, I wouldn't rely on the number of views to add up to much sells unless they are looking for what you have. Working on your tags will bring in the right types of views :)

Be sure to put dimensions in your descriptions! What size is your holiday placement?

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

Hey there fellow members, the way I see it is this....we are in the middle of at least a triple whammy! First, the economy stinks, we, here in the united states just had a horrible hurricane, and at least most of my sales come from the east coast, and #3, it's labor day weekend....most people are thinking more about picnics, outdoor bar-b-ques, and so forth...oh yea, and how about sticker shock that so many people are feeling from just putting their kids back in school, or in college! I think that one of the biggest problems is the news media. Lots of people believe every word that they read in the paper. If I was a young housewife with kids, I'd be afraid to spend...who knows if hubby is even going to have a job next week, not to mention that everything is going up in price! Okay, enough negative talk. I've been around long enough to know that it always gets better, and it will, we just have to hang on and wait all this nonsense out. In the meantime, I'm creating like crazy!! I feel like when the economy does recover, look at all the items I'll have for people to (hopefully) purchase. So, I don't think it has a thing to do with your pictures, your title or your description....don't feel picked on, we are simply in the middle of a finacial mess here in the united states. Never fear, it will get better when the holiday season approaches.....whew! Think I'll shut up now....lol

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

I'm feeling the same thing over here..kinda new, took me a month to even make a sale, then I sold quite a bit, now nothing. Three week week dry spell! Lots of looks, not many buys...(although it seems other shops are making sales). I am constantly tweaking my tags and titles; should I be re-newing more? I know they say that search results are by revelance and not newly listed, but it depends on how you are searching on Etsy. Has anyone else noticed a drop in sales since the new change, or is it just me?

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

I've got more hits and no sales since the change. I suspect my tags and titles are working well to attract people, but not ones who are looking for my stuff.

Re: Getting traffic but no sales.

Thank you Everyone!! Some wonderful advise and I truly appreciate it. I do agree with what has been said, Pictures will make a difference when someone is looking to purchase, forgetting to put in the measurements is a rooky mistake too!

I live on the east coast, we survived the hurricane... however, I am tucked up in the mountains with little else around, so I truly need to get my store full of items for folks to choose from and hopefully that will be one more thing to help me gain sales.

Again, Thank you so very much for all your kind thoughts and advise, it is a pleasure to hear from all of you!
