Getting my head around shop stats!

Hello all,

I'm sorry to start a new thread, but there is so much here that it got a bit overwhelming!

I've been trying to get my head around my stats as my shop is relatively new, but sometimes it just makes no sense! For instance, I had a spike in views last night, but I hadn't done anything in particular to cause that.

I also seem to have a lot of direct traffic to my shop. I am assuming this is due to me handing out business cards at fairs I've been to. At least I know they were worth it. Can't wait for the views to turn into sales!

Does anyone have any advice around looking at shop stats and what is good to look closely at?

Thanks!

Lisa

PS I'm also looking for critiques and am happy to return the favour. It's the best way to improve my shop, I know!

Re: Getting my head around shop stats!

I don't look at daily stats but rather look at the trends.

A single day can easily be a blip and doesn't give a really accurate picture.

For example, if I came to visit you in London and it was a beautiful warm sunny day and I based my entire impression of London weather on that one day it wouldn't really be accurate. The same goes for your shop stats.

Its the big picture that counts.

Agreed. Sometimes too it's the same person returning multiple times or checking out every item in your shop.

I like to look at my stats per item...helps me get a good idea of which key words are working in searches and which are not.

Another thing to look at is how people are finding your shop. Are they finding it through Etsy search? If they are, you can see what they searched for that lead them to your listing. Did they find you on a social media site, like Facebook? Did they find you from a team or the forums? Like other people have mentioned, you have to look at the big picture. Once you start noticing how people are finding your shop, you can change your tags to terms that people search for and focus your social media efforts on the sites that actually get people to look at your shop.
