Getting featured on blogs

I keep hearing that being featured on blogs can be really good advertising. I am interested to find out how to go about this. I'm talking about blogs with a LOT of readers....

I think for my shop, blogs by/for moms are probably my best angle.... Not necessarily crafty as all kids love to colour etc, so my products could be for anyone!

Has anyone approached the large successful blogs to be featured? Any tips? Is there an etiquette about this sort of thing?!

Thanks in advance!

Oh and if anyone knows of any blogs which may be suitable for me to approach please let me know!

Re: Getting featured on blogs

I'm under the impression that blogs with a lot of readers charge to have features like that. Unless for some reason they just like your stuff & come to you and ask for your items to be featured.
You could always write to their advertising :) I have done so to a few wedding blogs. Give them a short story about what you make and include the link to your shop. Hopefully they like what they see. :) Good luck!

Re: Getting featured on blogs

Hi Joanne!! :)

I've been featured on several blogs, but with the average of 25-50 readers. But I still get views from some of them even though my features were months ago, so I think even the smaller blog is a great way to get your shop out there.

If I remember correctly besides the very occasional blogger approaching me I saw threads in different teams I'm in that asked for volunteers to be featured in their blogs, I would volunteer and that's how I ended up getting featured.

Re: Getting featured on blogs

Thanks guys :-)

I have been featured on several small blogs aswell, it's jslust never done much for me really. Handmadeology was the best by a long way with good views for a few days from there.

I'm sort of thinking more of a way to advertise, and yes I guess I would perhaps have to pay. I want to find a way to get my shop properly 'out there'. I use twitter, Facebook, pinterest and Wanelo, (Wanelo thebest by a loooong way, although I do enjoy twitter!)

Can't really think of many other ways to really advertise?! That's why I got thinking about blogs. If I was a better (more imaginative) writer, and had more time, maybe I could have my own successful blog lol, now that would be good!
