I like getting something extra in my packages, but it depends on what I've ordered. I ordered soaps one time and got samples of some of the shop's other items that I actually used, but I wouldn't order from them again because of poor service. When I ordered photographs from a different shop they were packed very securely, but it was a 'no frills' presentation. In spite of the lackluster packaging, I ordered from the shop again because I really liked his work. It's more important to me that I get good customer service and that my order is wrapped nicely and securely than getting a pretty package full of freebies.
I've included freebies in my packages from time to time. For my jewelry shop, I'll include a pair of earrings or other small gift for my repeat customers, my first time customers get a coupon code on the back of a business card. In my other shop, I've made something little and quick to include with each order so far, but I may not have the time to do this as business (and school) pick up over the next few months. I always include a thank you note too.
I think the idea of adding something extra for your holiday orders is very nice, but it's not necessary to continue it after. Personally, an ornament would go onto my tree right away if I got it in November, but in February it would probably get lost or thrown away before the following holiday season. If you want to continue to include a freebie after the holidays, I'd suggest that you include something appropriate for the season. :)
