Framing Question

I just got a frame to use for photographing my prints in. The frame said it was 10x13 matted to 8x10. However, when I put one of my prints in it, it cut off a fairly large portion of the print. I measured the mat and it is actually 7.5 x 9.5. The other one I got is the same. Is that standard? If so, how do you size your prints?

Re: Framing Question

Now that Etsy is back up, does anyone know anything about mats and framing?

Re: Framing Question

I think that is standard, and it frustrates me as well. I tend to work clear up to the edge on my paintings and mats (and even frames) often ruin the balance for me. I have had to get "floating" frames for some of my paintings, but they won't work for prints. You could try making your prints with a white border so that the mat won't cut into the image so much.

Best of luck!

Re: Framing Question

That's what I was afraid of. It looks okay for most of my photos, but it makes one look terribly unbalanced. Thank you for letting me know.
