First purchase for material went wrong? Advice please!

Hi,

I'm real new and thought I would try buying some yarn here. Unfortunately when I received it, it has a musty smell. I convo'd them and all I got back was defensiveness. I really don't want my first review to be negative, what do I do? They have a lot of sales & positive feedback. Is there a way to get the smell off? I'd rather not have to return it now...

I would really like to hear from more experienced people. If I give neg feedback does it come back to me? Or if they gave me pos feedback can they take it back because I'm not happy?

Retaliatory feedback is supposed to be against Etsy's TOUs (and if you feel that someone has done it, you can report same to Etsy and have them remove it). If you are unhappy with the product, you should leave honest feedback. Especially if the seller wasn't willing to correct an obvious problem. Your obligation as a buyer was to pay for the product, so the seller would not be justified leaving you negative just because you left same for him/her.

Have you tried putting the yarn outside so it can air out? It might take a week or so but its worth a shot to see if the musty smell will go away.

I think if you didn't want to leave negative feed back just leave neutral feedback and explain just the facts as to your experience with this seller, as a fellow seller and buyer on etsy this is what I look for and want my customers to do. neutral feedback doesn't effect their rating (up or down) and they do have the option to 'kiss and make up' if they are really unhappy with a neutral feedback. You've got to be honest, that's what etsy relies on.
You have contacted the seller and if they haven't been able to give you a solution that is good for both of you, then you know how it has left you feeling as a buyer and your feed back does need to reflect this that' s why it is there in the first place so everyone know how your individual experience was.

Maybe ask them if they could do a direct swap, that why neither of you lose out

Maybe the neutral way is best. I have left it out all day, now I have it in the freezer with some baking soda. I'll see if that makes a difference in the morning

I think that because we are a seller we don't feel comfortable leaving negative feedback for a fellow seller. But, I think what would a buyer only do? I bought a product that took weeks to come and was shipped in a regular envelope with a 44 cent stamp when I paid full shipping. I did not think about leaving negative feedback. As a seller I felt I did not want to give negative feedback to another seller.

If that doesn't work I would maybe ask to exchange the yarn, ship it back for a different yarn. They should be able to work something out. Hope it works out.
