Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Whew, I started early cause I thought it would take me forever to tag everything for Cyber Monday / Black Friday. And so it did! But I didn't want to spend the next week worrying about finishing it so decided to do them ALL in one day. I haven't changed the listings to add the coupon code, but I've tagged and titled. It took me hours and HOURS, I'm a tagged out zombie, time for bed! Anyone else go crazy and tag all their items in one day? I have over 140 listings

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Hi Honey :)

I'm a new seller on etsy from Germany, and some things are a mystery to me - Cyber Monday and Black Friday? I think of science fiction and Wall Street Crashes... What is it all about? If you have some time to spare (being tagged out and all) would you explain it a little bit to me? Sounds like a lot of work... do people search for 'Cyber Monday'? Is it worthwhile?

Thank you so much and have a good sleep :)

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Hi Ulrike!

your post made me laugh, what you think of when people say black friday and cyber monday are hilarious!

Black Friday is basically the biggest shopping day of the year in the states. Always the Friday following Thanksgiving, stores have crazy deals/bargains/low prices/sales and people go crazy! Lots of big chain and department stores even open their doors at midnight, 1, 2, 3, 4 am! And there are plenty of people waiting.. sometimes huge lines form outside the doors. Sales are just everywhere! I used to work retail and Black Friday is very much geared towards items that you can usually find easily, but the prices are reduced so everyone wants to get it on one day ie. electronics, computers, sports equipment, beauty gift boxes, and such.

Cyber Monday on the other hand is the same idea, only online. Black Friday people are usually out and about, so I'm not sure about internet traffic on that day, but on the following Monday, get ready! Everyone all over the internet is looking for deals/sales and free shipping. If you haven't already, and you plan on it, I would definitely add something like "cyber monday sales" in your tags with different variation of each product. If you have any sales, coupons, or deals, I would definitely market those and get the word out!

It's a very crazy weekend after Thanksgiving, but people get so crazy around the holidays! It's my first Black Friday and cyber Monday on etsy, so fingers crossed! I have no idea how this will pan out. But I hope you understand now, the market isn't crashing ;) and best of luck to you!

Ooh, that's a good idea to get all the tagging over with now! I probably won't get mine done until 11:59 PM the night before Black Friday due to school, lol!

I'll be tagging my 100+ items too, and adding the coupon code into my shop announcement and descriptions... hmmmm... maybe I need to get started on that too :)

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

What specific tags does everybody use? Are you literally tagging with the words "black friday" and "cyber monday" or are you just re-tagging to make your items more gift appropriate? Advice and comments are welcome, as this is my first Holiday Season selling on Etsy!

Thanks!

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Patsy - I am literally tagging with 'black friday' and 'cyber monday' and adding to my titles. If you search those terms now, lots of items are already tagged/ titled. I plan on working on this over the weekend.

In general, for BF and CM, are stores using coupon codes or directly discounting the item price?

Are the coupon codes 'black friday' and 'cyber monday'?

What % off is the discount?

Thanks! Just trying to get a feel of what is out there. I didn't really do this last year.

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Thanks for the reminder! I've now started tagging mine. Decided to offer 15% off this year even though I'm keeping my prices down as last year's 10% off didn't really do anything. I'm hoping I'm better known now and will sell enough to absorb the loss!

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Alternatively you could try craftopolis.com for express editing. I feel your pain Honey Moser, the last time I had a sale I tagged each and every listing, changed titles, descriptions, it was horrible! I then found out about craftopolis, it doesn't allow tag changes, but you can change titles, descriptions and prices, so definitely check it out in the future!

Wish everybody all the best this holiday season!

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Make sure you're tagging with the exact phrases "cyber monday etsy" and "black friday etsy", as those are the search terms that Etsy will be promoting. http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2011/from-etsys-merchandising-desk-november-2011/

Also "free shipping etsy" but they are asking that you do not use that tag until you've already adjusted your listings for free shipping.

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Thanks for the info - I didn't think about using those tags. I did tag all of mine for free shipping and am using 10% off coupon codes. And I did all 40 at one time. I can't imagine over 100! Are your eyes crossed? Lol...

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Just out of curiosity, but how is everyone doing the coupon discounts? Are you announcing it in your shop? In the items description? In the item title? I'm about to get started tagging my items and wasn't sure how to apply the discounts.

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

I changed my tags per the Etsy Merchandising Desk cited by Amber. It took way longer than expected, and I only have 17 items! The Merch Desk suggests listing your specials in the first line of the description. I also have it listed under my banner. I'm not sure how well this will all work, but I'm excited to see what happens!

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

I just put sale in caps in the headers. Then when I changed tags I added a line to the body that directed people to the shop page to find out how to use the coupon code. I had my second sale yesterday and she used it with no problems.

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Zoe,
I'll definitely be using crafty polis for the item descriptions when I change those next week. But since I can't use that for tags I figured I better get an early start on that! I love craftopolis!

To echo some others I used the tags Cyber Monday Etsy and Black Friday Etsy as per the merchandising newsletter.

For those who use etsyonsale, when they put in the tags for you, can you choose which tags to take off to replace them with?

Re: Finished tagging for Cyber Monday/Black Friday

Hi Tessa!

Thank you so much for explaining :) Now it all makes sense! I'll make sure to come up with a plan then... ummm...
Wow, I'm quite sure I would hide at home under a blanket when everybody goes crazy in department stores - crowds are not my thing... I may try my luck as a buyer on Cyber Monday though - so here's another crazy customer ;)

I wish you all the best of luck :)
