Feelings on asking for reviews

I just recently opened my store and of course trying to get more buyers. I feel a good way to do this is show that you are a reliable seller. So what do you all feel about asking a buyer to share their experience? Is it "tacky"? I feel that as a buyer I might not even think about doing this unless asked. Cant wait to start reading more in this forum!

Re: Feelings on asking for reviews

I wouldn't want a seller writing me about leaving a review. There's a bar at the top of the page when you first log in to remind you when you can leave a review for an item you've purchased. Not all buyers are on here as obsessively as we sellers are, and those of us who are sellers know to leave reviews.

Honestly, it would feel spammy to me to have a seller contact me and ask me to leave a review.

Re: Feelings on asking for reviews

You are going to get responses all over the place in regard to this. I would say, do what feels right to you.

I don't feel like you should contact a person via the convo system and ask them to leave a review. However, when a person first purchases, Etsy sends them a receipt, and in that is the "message from the seller". I say thank you for your order along with other stuff. But, I also add that I love to hear feedback and for them to let me know about their experience with Kylee Inspired Crafts through the feedback system if they have some time. That is the one and only time I mention it.

I have had a person contact me personally themselves one time telling me how great their purchase was, and I asked them if they would mind leaving feedback. As you said, they didn't even know about it or how to do it. I am not sure I would do that now, though.

Etsy does remind buyers that they have feedback to leave at the top of the screen if they ever log back on. I know because they have done that to me about leaving feedback before.

Regardless, it is your shop. Do what feels right to you.

Re: Feelings on asking for reviews

I would find it a bit annoying since there is already a reminder given when you log in. I definitely would like more customers to leave reviews but I take it that they were satisfied even if they didn't.

Re: Feelings on asking for reviews

Thanks for the response. I was not aware that they are greeted with a banner that reminds them. I guess at that point it might feel a bit needy asking again. Hopefully Ill get a chance to read more on here today. Thanks again for the quick response.

Re: Feelings on asking for reviews

Be careful what you ask for!

There is nothing worse than being harassed by a shop for a review.

If a customer has a great experience with you then they in general will leave a positive review.

How many times have you ever got in touch with the shop that you purchased from after the purchase was made and told them what you thought about the overall sale and the customer service?
