Feedback for dummies...

I've hesitated this question a couple of times. I fear it is most likely common sense, but still.. I need someone to verify it lol. When you buy something, or sell something the little link at the top of the page eventually says... "leave feeback for this item". In my case, last night I sold something and then this morning when signing on, I seen the link "Leave feedback for this item". Curious as to, what this is referring too.. the customer paying you instantly, or.. what could lead you to not want to click positive? Also, about 3 weeks ago now I bought something from China (bad idea) because Its taking forever and a day, yet when I first bought it, it said.... "leave feedback for this item" Just wondering how I possibly could, if I haven't received it yet. Is it just there for when you do receive it? Please someone explain this confusing silly question to me. hahaha

Re: Feedback for dummies...

Yes, it is just there automatically for when the item does arrive, like ebay, Amazon, etc.

Re: Feedback for dummies...

And, as a seller, I think it's helpful to have great feedback.

Re: Feedback for dummies...

I've always waited with leaving feedback untill the transaction was totally complete. As a buyer and a seller. There's no expiration date on the leaving feedback thing.
Especially as a buyer, I'd wait until I receive my purchase until I know it's to my liking.
As a seller you could think of things like how the communication was, or how fast payment was, like you said.
Anything that might stand out to you.
Hope this helps :-)

Re: Feedback for dummies...

For most sellers it's so important to receive a positive feedback with words like this:super fast shipping, great transaction, items just as described, highly recommended etsy seller...Lol
And I think that seller who told you to leave a feedback just need you not forget to leave a feedback (when you receive your order).
Some people think feedbacks are not so important for buyers, and don't know what to leave for them.I just write perfect buyer, thanks.Hahaha, they are perfect when paypal tell me that I have received money.Isn't it?

Re: Feedback for dummies...

It would be pointless to leave feedback for someone because they payed instantly. It's more so that you can let other sellers know that this person is a good and easy buyer, or, in some cases, if their demands are too difficult to meet or something. There wouldn't be a negative option for this otherwise.

Also, as for buying items from china, it was recently chinese new year which has affected their postal service. I bought something about a month and a half ago from China. The seller usually got the items to me in a week from shipping, but this time it took over a month because of the new year. Some sellers, however, do take longer, but buying from China, you kind of have to expect it, from experience. It's worse on Ebay, I've found, but from everyone, probably because not all ebay sellers take the care over their shop that etsy sellers do.
It's best to just wait and leave feedback when you receive the item and the transaction has been completed. The feedback option is put up immediately after purchase because Etsy won't know when the item arrives, and some sellers sell digital items and are able to deliver like 15 minutes after the order has been placed.

Re: Feedback for dummies...

Isn' t there a 30 or 45 days limit or something after which you can't leave feedback ?

Re: Feedback for dummies...

No, because some items take that long to arrive.
I have another etsy account, one I made in the beginning to buy, then I made this one to sell since I couldn't change the name at that point. I hadn't logged into the other one for months, but when I did the other day, I found I still had to leave feedback for items I'd purchased almost a year ago :P and so I did!

Re: Feedback for dummies...

120 day feedback option. Three months is a long time. Please note that if you leave feed back it can never be removed or changed! Ever! Unless with a negative feedback the seller/buyer each given the opportunity to 'kiss & make up'. Etsy is a venue not a moderator and you can discover this in the DO's & DON'Ts of Etsy.
If your policies offer a refund with conditions and they are violated with an item arriving back to you as a seller in damaged condition do we still offer them a refund? I sell glass, so for me, Not; and if you already gave positive feedback to the buyer due to their fast payment transaction...............there is little of nothing that we as shop owners can do to alter that buyers abusive remarks or even leave a professional response to their comment and the why. Take care not to lose that opportunity of option to leave response feedback. Policies and Proceedures are important to protect both parties and I suggest you consider being serious about your Policy Page and filling it out. They do have merit and they are the laws of your business shop.
