Feedback Frustration

I'm not the first (nor the last) person to complain about the feedback system on Etsy but yeesh... can we get a better system? I get countless convo's from people raving about my work and no one knows but me!

Sure, I could bug the crap out of them and ask them AGAIN to provide their feedback for others, but I feel like I'm begging. It really should be more obvious and way more simple for our customers.

when someone convo's or emails me and loves my work, i tell them I'm so happy that they love it and that I would love it and be grateful if they would also leave me etsy feedback...

I hear you on this. I've heard of people adding a note to their customer's receipt with a statement that says something along the line of "Don't forget to leave feedback if you're happy with your product." I really like Janelle's suggestion though.

Great suggestions!!

I am now adding a note to my sales receipt.

I usually send a convo after the sale asking for feedback. I did recently have to send an Etsy seller 3 convo's for feedback on my purchase, though. I had put through my positive for them the day that I had received my item.

I not only ask for feedback in my note to seller, but I also leave a little tutorial on how to do it..... Here's my note to buyers:

I agree- it's very hard to find, and I don't feel comfortable asking people to leave feedback. I find it annoying when Ebay sellers do it, and I don't want Etsy to feel like Ebay. I wish Etsy would automatically send the buyer an email about it.

I agree with Nikki and Lisu - Maybe something that says, "If you love your product, support your sellers!" Something motivating that tells the customer, "Yeah! I DO want to support this shop!" :)

I recently bought invitations from Minted.com - I like their website because they make a big deal about how their artists are "indie artists" and then Minted provides you with a picture of the artist that designed what you ordered. Really cool - I thought of it immediately once I saw this thread!

You just might get a negative feedback for harassing them. Remember feedback is optional, it is not required nor should it be.

I put a feedback link on the "shipping message," but it doesn't really work, since customers will wait to leave a feedback until they receive their orders.

Just like you, I received so many happy convos. I always responded to those convos saying thank you. I just added the sentence below after thank you.
"I would really appreciate it if you could share your experience by leaving a feedback too: https://www.etsy.com/feedback/awaiting?ref=si_feedback
Almost 100% of the time, those who sent me convo left a feedback. Make sure to include the feedback link, so your customers don't have to look for how to leave a feedback.

I include a nice note in the package I send out, and in the shipping notification... Still have only had less than half of the people who buy from me leave feedback... Better than them leaving a negative, but would be nice too hear that they are liking the items they buy from me.

I do include a note in the package but I don't ask for feedback because I assume they just toss the note. On the shipping notification I also have a link but again... they aren't going to leave feedback until they receive their item.

I will reply with the convo they send that they like their product as you suggested Miyuki.

I just hate to be a bug in their side...

I agree. I've also added a note to their shipments before asking to please leave feedback, but most of the time they just send a message leaving positive feedback, but no actual "feedback" through the system. :[

The feedback system in Etsy needs some work. I had several convos with the customers that went like this:

- Great necklace! Great service! Will buy from you again!
- Thank you! I am so glad you are happy with your order. Would you mind leaving me a positive feedback?
- But I just did!!!
- Yes, thank you, I appreciate it. But this is a convo, only I can see it. Feedback is for everybody to see.
- I just went back to your shop, and there is nowhere to leave a feedback...

At which point I suspect that I have bugged this person enough already, so I thank her again and that's it. Sending a feedback link with the tracking convo seems like a good idea, I will try it, but this whole process should have been easier from the beginning.

I to have been wishing for a more simple way for my customers to leave feedback. I get several photos and feedback from my customers on my Facebook fan page, which is so fun for the customer to have their child featured, and so fun for us to see the "happy" customer, but I really need them to leave their positive feedback and photos on my shop page.

Miyuki: Is the link you listed universal or do I have one specific to my own shop page.

I just send a gentle reminder to leave feedback with the invoice and the automated email. I wouldn't message my customers to ask for feedback, that's harassment in my opinion.

But I agree with most of what is said, a better more obvious feedback system is needed. It is lovely when customers leave you amazing feedback via email, but you do wish they left it for everyone to see. *sigh*

I guess I don't mind the Etsy feedback system with positive, negative and neutral but I really wish it could be more visible for buyers to see it. Many times my customers would convo me saying how much they like their items but never leave a "feedback" for my shop. :( A lot of them are new to Etsy and obviously didn't know where to leave feedback even if they wanted to. (sigh) ...

Good news is that I think Etsy is working on a better system now. It is in forum over the last few days. Hope they will do a good job! Fingers crossed...!

Yeah, It's really not a very good system. Most people that are not regular Etsy shoppers (that's about 98% of my customers) don't really know much about feedback. I didn't even know where to find it when I first opened my shop up. Now that I have plenty of great feedback I really don't worry about it.

The only times I have actually asked for feedback was when I got a message saying how much they loved the item.

I responded by saying that I would Love it if you would say that here, https://www.etsy.com/feedback/awaiting .... for all the world to see!

Feedback is nice to get as a seller, no matter what the forum. I was really touched once when someone went to the trouble of mailing me a handwritten note telling me how much she loved her purchase and that it was her first Etsy experience so she wasn't sure what to expect. My message to buyer says that I always leave feedback for my customers and would love to get it from them, but that's as far as I go.

As a buyer, I don't really worry too much about how many people have left feedback for a shop, it's more the quality of the feedback. People ALWAYS find a way to leave feedback when they have something negative to say about a shop. If I see that a shop has 100 sales and 30 to 40 positive feedback (100% positive), then I know that they are reliable and have a quality product. I feel like that's what buyers want to know from your feedback.

Maybe I'm being to blase about the whole thing, but I get feedback from about 60% of my buyers, so I'm pretty happy with that.

Thiose are really great ideas. So far I got my first sale last friday night and the buyer left awesome feedback after recieving her item. I was sooo happy. She was a pleasure to have as a customer :)
