Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

So my husband was using my super awesome Shark iron to press his dress shirt this morning (why he didn't use his starchy iron that we reserve just for him ironing his shirts is beyond me), and it suddenly turned off and wouldn't turn back on again.

Noooooo!

I guess I really can't complain because I've used it regularly over a year, and I got it practically for free.

What is your favorite brand or model of iron? I mostly work with 100% cotton fabrics. And I would prefer one that doesn't need to use distilled water (because I'm lazy! Haha).

I have a Shark, and I don't care for mine, but you may have a better model than I do. Mine's been leaking water, and I probably really need to replace it. I've had my eye on a good Rowenta over at Jo-ann's for a while. Next time I have a coupon, I may splurge and get one.

I have a rowenta...this is now my second one! When my first went out after five years of heavy use (and my son accidentally turned over the ironing board and it came crashing down...son was fine, iron not so much ;-)...I headed over to the place that I have found tends to have great prices on rowenta irons: Tuesday Morning. If you have a store near you - check it out- they usually offer a couple different models at close to half price!

Holly- I meant to also add that I use tap water (lazy too--guilty as charged!) and have never had a problem in the reservoir or with the steam holes. I iron mostly burlap and cotton for my pillows on my site, so I need lots of steam and heat!
Rowenta might cringe- but I am still a happy user!

Re: Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

I have had a rowenta for about 5 years, love it, would absolutely buy another if and when this one quits. I use tap water with no problem.

Re: Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

I don't iron anymore.
What are you ladies wearing that needs to be ironed?

I'm sure I have one in the hall closet but I have no idea what brand it it. You guys are way more industrious than I.

Now, if you are a quilter, okay, I can see the need.

Re: Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

Hubby needs his shirts ironed, and I sew - iron required for any sewing, not just quilting. :D

Re: Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

I had three sharks in a year - liked the weight of the iron but they are horrible otherwise. They spit and drool all over your fabric. I kept taking it back and trying another model until I finally gave up.

I now have a Rowenta and the jury is still out. It is okay but I hate how the temperature dial is right where you go to grab it. If you have your music up while working and don't hear the click..... you have a nice melted hole in your work.

Re: Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

I do not iron things :B
I have enough housework to do without the addition of ironing on top.. If I ironed clothing and such, I'm not sure I would have enough time to eat or sleep any more

Re: Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

We have (had) two of the exact same iron... a cheapy from Wal-Mart. I have had mine for several years and it works well enough for my needs. I think I iron a shirt once a year or so (we don't have an ironing board so it gets kind of difficult) but using it for quilting and sewing it works pretty good. I don't even know what brand it is... LOL

Re: Favorite Iron: Ready...Go!

I was going through an iron every 3-4 months, buying them within the $20-$30 range.

Finally splurged on a Rowenta... I'm not going to jinx myself... but lets just say I recommend them highly.
