Facebook ????

Hi All,

I'm hoping to get a little more info on using FB fan pages. I signed up but have barely any likes. Everyone says what a great marketing tool it is but, how do I get people there in the first place? Also, can only people like your shop? When I try to like someone else it uses my personal profile, how are other shops supposed to know who I am that way? What kinds of things do you post? Is it basically just your new items and specials. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is mine, please take a look and let me know what I'm missing. I still have less than 25 likes so it doesn't have a real address yet.

Thanks for taking the time,
Erin

Re: Facebook ????

I'm In the same boat. It seems like you have it all right and your fan page looks wonderful. Yes, you have to like from your own page. But you can switch to your fan page and leave a message with your store avi.

I gave you a like. You have great stuff. Here is mine. Just started it a few weeks ago. www.facebook.com/pages/Ewe-and-Me-Yarns/224067100961206

Re: Facebook ????

Hello!
1. An easy way to get people there is to join fb help/ share like groups here on etsy
2.You have to like from a personal page for it to count. However if you like a shop and want them to like you back you can like as ( example)
"Hi, liking from @thelittlestbookshop. Great items, very unique"

When you use th "@" sign it will give you options of what to link to. Choose your page. I'll post to your fb page to show you!

As for what to post...I am no expert on this but I post new items, what I've sold, new things I've working on, etc. I also take polls of things related to my items.

I hope that helps!

Re: Facebook ????

Thanks for the info everyone.

Untwisted, if you click on my link above, I think it will give you the option to create your own fan page at the bottom left of the page. Let me know if this works.

Re: Facebook ????

Untwistedsister - on the log in page "sign up. it's free and always will be..." under all the blank spaces there is a link that says "Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business." just click on that and follow the steps. =)

Re: Facebook ????

New items and specials make up, like 10% of my posts. Mostly I put links to my blog, things I'm working on, and just fun things that I see/think of. I just try to go by what I would want to see.

Re: Facebook ????

New to this team but found this thread and wanted to give my 5 cents of advice....
Setting a fan page is easy, if anyone still has a difficult time please let me know....
About the "likes", I am still having trouble with that BUT I "bought" an ad for 5 days, spent $20 and double my "likes". Since I wasn't sure the ads were going to work, I didn't want to spend too much money.
I did get a sale from one of those new fans so I was very pleased. I did run a sale during those 5 days, however that FB fan either didn't care for the discount or missed it.
I refunded her 15% off through PayPal anyway.
Hope it helps some....
Judy

Re: Facebook ????

You can offer discounts for people who join, by doing giveaways. You can send out a message to your buyers in your mailing list as well.

Re: Facebook ????

When I first started my facebook page, I ran a giveaway on my blog

(it's closed now, but check it out for ideas if you like:
http://concertinapress.blogspot.com/2011/06/its-my-first-giveaway.html)

where the only requirement was to "like" my facebook page - watch out with giveaways because technically, you aren't allowed to host any giveaways on facebook without using the wildfire app (or other FB sanctioned apps), but it's ok to have the giveaway on your own blog. I then advertised the giveaway in various etsy promo forums and through some of the giveaway blogs -

Running a giveaway for one week netted me 75 new facebook likes -
in fact, I should probably have one again soon!

besides that, I put it on my business card, my email signature and my etsy profile

Re: Facebook ????

You can use FB as your shop. On the right side under the admins, there should be a blue line that says "use facebook as (your fan page name here)" and that allows you to post on FB using your shop's name and avitar, and you can switch it back at any time.

Re: Facebook ????

Thanks for all the tips everyone, I ended up getting over 25 new fans last night. I think I finally have it down.

I may possible do a giveaway on my blog to gain some more interest overall.

Re: Facebook ????

I joined Etsy FB Fanatics team and a then found a few other teams via FB, one called "Toot Your Own Horn" and "USA Sending in the Troops" and you can like other peoples pages and have them like yours in return, they also have sign ups to be mobbed or marched on where you'll get multiple likes quick. I do have to warn you though, go slow with the liking, commenting and tagging, you get temporarily banned sometimes if you like and comment on too many and tag too often. :) Hope this helps. I'll like your page as well.

Re: Facebook ????

I had the same issue. A GREAT tip I got recently was to create a "Welcome" landing page for your FB page. It will get people to click "Like" to be able to view your page. That way, if you're offering discounts or promotions through your page, your welcome page can say something like, "Click 'Like' to find out about all our new sales!" So people can't just go to your page and get the deals without "Liking" you first. ;)

Here's my page, you should go right to my "Welcome," which incidentally, I created myself pretty quickly: www.facebook.com/organiluxe

Good luck!!!

Re: Facebook ????

Organiluxe, thanks for the tip on the "Welcome" landing page! How did you make your great custom-made page the landing page default? Mine's defaulted now to My Etsy, but I'd love to make one like yours and install it instead...

(Didn't even know about default landing pages 'til I read your post - thanks a bunch!)

Re: Facebook ????

Hey, it looks as if there are so many supportive people here (that is one of the things I love about Etsy) so I thought I would give it a try on my new FB fan page. I am new to FB and I greatly appreciate any and all support.

A big THANK-YOU!!

Phew!! I think I set up my fan page on facebook. Now I have to figure out how to do the 'Like" buttons. I tried to link my etsy shop to it too. I think I need to go chill and make jewelry. My head is SPINNING!

Re: Facebook ????

About creating a custom "Welcome" page -

I had someone give me the basics of the how-to for getting a Welcome page on there in the first place, but I really had to google "adding a Welcome page to FB" to get the details. I'm sorry I don't have them to write out right now, but if you search for it, you should find lots of sites explaining exactly what you have to do.

Basically, you have to add a new application to your FB page called FBML. Then you can edit that app to make it a Welcome page. Your Welcome page is actually going to be a jpeg file with a width of no more than 520px. I made mine through the free photoshop software I have downloaded on my computer (Gimp). Then it's a matter of uploading your jpeg and making it your new Welcome page!

I really wish I could be more specific than that, but in all honesty, I simply can't remember all the exact steps of how I did it, but I do remember I did it all myself (which says something, ha!), and it wasn't too complicated.

Just remember when you're creating your Welcome page, make sure to have that "call-to-action" at the top that says "Click the 'Like' button" or something similar, so people know exactly what they need to do to see your fabulous deals!

Good luck! :)

Re: Facebook ????

I think everyone has it covered... the only thing I can add is this... if you like doing giveaways and want to reach customers you wouldn't normally check out Freebies & Giveaways on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/FreebiesandGiveaways?ref=ts

They run a Freebie Friday every week. Sponsors donate an item to the giveaway and people have to like your page to win. I went from 50 to 150 likes in one weekend and it was relatively painless. And the winner turned around and bought something from my shop! I've kept most of the likes (some people unlike you because they didn't win) and now I'm up to 381.

You can also post deals to F&G's wall which will be seen by their 9300 fans. Which is awesome. I highly recommend them!
