Facebook question

Just wondering if anyone knows if I could set up a shop page on Facebook that is not connected with my personal page. I don't like mixing my business stuff with friends and family.

Re: Facebook question

Of course you can, facebook pages exist for companies to do exactly that.

A quick google will find you all the info you need or go to this facebook link directly: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

Re: Facebook question

The Facebook pages can only connect to your personal pages if you let them.

I have fans on there that know I'm the page owner/shop owner, but they don't know about my own life.

Re: Facebook question

Thanks for the responses. Sam I used the link you put up and that took me to a FB start up page. I started a new page and it linked right away with my personal page again. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong?!

Re: Facebook question

Unfortunately Facebook won't let you have a business page without having a personal page so there is a connection there but they are totally separate in terms of what you post, who likes your page and what pages your business page likes etc You are effectively an admin on that business page (and you can be an admin for multiple pages - I look after 5 or 6 via my personal account)

I'm pretty sure that no one would be able to see that your personal page was linked to the business page unless you wanted them to be able to by adding that info into the information about that page.

Hope that helps

Re: Facebook question

Any idea as to why number of likes doesn't go up even though notifications are sent that someone liked your page?

Re: Facebook question

It is true that a business page or any page needs to be linked to a personal profile. I have got round it by having a Personal profile in the name of my Etsy shop and then linked a page to that, which is also in the same name as my Etsy shop. I am not the only one to do it this way. You also get different people liking the profile and the page.

LotsALovies ~ I think the answer to your question is that the number of likes go up only if the page is liked by someone's personal profile and not by their page. But as far as I can see both likes are an interaction anyway.

Re: Facebook question

I stopped using Facebook because it kept posting on my personal page too.

Re: Facebook question

I just set up a separate Facebook page but I am still confused about how to use it correctly. I post some photo and what do I do next? It says to choose my contacts so my friends can see it. Is this how we are supposed to do? Thanks, if any one can help...:)

Re: Facebook question

I don't want my friends and family to see what I'm posting on my business page. When posting on my personal page those posts don't come up on my business page but everything thats posted on my business page shows up on my personal and I didn't want that.

Re: Facebook question

Is it showing up on your newsfeed or on your actual facebook "timeline." The reason it shows up on your personal newsfeed is because you "like" your page. This is the same as if someone else "likes" your page, the things you post will show up on their newsfeed. As long as your pictures, etc, aren't showing up in your personal timeline, then only people who like your page will see it. Does that make sense?

Re: Facebook question

Christina, I'm not totally sure why it would be doing that, anything that you post on your business page should only appear there unless you choose to share it on your personal profile.

It might be that you are posting to your page as yourself not your business.

If you go to the top right hand of the facebook screen, it says Home with a small arrow next to it. If you click here you can switch to 'being' your business page.

Or if you are looking at your page but haven't switched to 'being' your business page there is also a piece of navigation in that same place that says Voice you can toggle here whether you are posting as you or your business without having to switch.

Otherwise there maybe something in your admin section that is selected to duplicate posts but I couldn't find anything that seemed to do that just now in mine when I looked.

Hope that is helpful!

Re: Facebook question

Yes I think Elizabeth was right. I unliked my page and then wrote something on my business page and it didn't show up on my personal page! I think we're on to something Thanks Elizabeth!
