Personally do not have experience with any of these types of apps, but you might want to check out Volusion (cheaper). Right now though, most people will probably still find Etsy to be the best bet.

Thanks Jen! Not apps... an actual site/selling platform. I'll check out your recommendation.

I'm looking to branch out onto another reputable selling platform this year - on top of etsy.

Re: Experience with Retailr?

I never heard of it. I would look around the site and see what information you gather. For instance, what payment methods they accept - do they suit you? Are there public forums on that site? You could get a feel about the community, the challenges they are facing etc. I would also do searches on Google and see what comes up. Sometimes, selling platforms are discussed in other forums, outside the venue.

Re: Experience with Retailr?

I personally signed up for Volusion.com (Paid $124) and the link button to fix my shop never workes for months. I had many people from them help me and basically wasted my time and they didn't offer a refund. so try if you wish :) but thats just a gamble.

i had an account with bigcartel.com and loved it but it was too simple although you can customize it with html and css coding.

i have also done wix.com which ia pretty cool but it takes forever to load your website.

i now have shopify which ia nice but it is so confusing. i may go back to wix or big cartel.

just offering my input. i have never used retailr yet though

Re: Experience with Retailr?

I've heard good things about Shopify and that they offer live support - very helpful. As well as having good templates, etc. Haven't tried it myself yet but it's one I would consider.

Re: Experience with Retailr?

I haven't heard of that platform but thanks for the link - I'm going to check it out when I get a chance.

Wix.com is what I use for my main website(e-commerce) - super easy with drop & drag features and beautiful templates. However I am currently having issues with SEO and with loading so I have been looking for another venue/platform.

I have researched the pros and cons of the top three: Shopify, Big Commerce & Volusion. They all have their merits, however I think Shopify (for me) is in the lead. I have tried the free 14 day trial so many times but have yet to take the plunge.

One of my other sites that I have recently set up is through Supadupa.com. This platform is also really easy to set up (but note there is more creative freedom -with little experience needed-to change templates with Wix). I signed up when they were offering it for free. Not sure if I direct my domain how much it will be but I am already seeing results from this site. May be worth paying for...

After having seen/tried the setup of a site on Wix, Shopify & Supadupa, one key thing that I think is so very important when selecting the platform: choose one that allows you to add tags for SEO on the individual product. Both Shopify & Supadupa have this while Wix does not. (Wix is by page).

Hope this helps:)

Re: Experience with Retailr?

I've tried tons of them. In all honesty I find that my best bet is to drive traffic to my Etsy shop rather than trying a different platform -- with the exception of Ebay. I've been trying to compare apples to apples, and for time spent on each I do as much on Ebay as on Etsy. The fees are quite a bit higher, but with the same effort the sales are about on par.

Try driving to your shop with other sites -- Craftori, HandmadeArtists, even Bonanza allows links.

And P.S. my goal for this year is to figure out Facebook. I understand that's a real driving force . . .
