Etsy Search

How does it really work? I'm trying to figure out how to get found better. I have fixed my tags recently and I still don't get near the first few pages. I also list and renew 1-3 times a day. I'm up to 140+ listings and busy creating. Any thoughts?

Re: Etsy Search

?? tags look good.....titles maybe could use more keywords?

Maybe the pictures could be more enticing....?

Re: Etsy Search

Your items are super adorable!!
One thing which strikes - your item descriptions are almost identical. Although it is hard to describe the bibs, repetition is not good.
Also, start typing baby... into the search box and see if you can find more keyword suggestions.

Re: Etsy Search

I'm puzzled. My best guess is that it is relevancy first, then equally relevant items are put in order of recency. But they also want diversity, so not sure how that plays a part?

I show up on first pages of search for most of my tags except the main one "bra", I'm not until page 11. I can't figure it out, but I am happy to show up for nursing bra, wireless bra, sports bra, etc.

Re: Etsy Search

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm glad I'm not the only one puzzled. I did change around some titles to see if that helps. Thanks for the thoughts!

Re: Etsy Search

I am trying to fiqure out the same thing. I renew my items everyday, I have fixed my tags and titles. I am trying to fiqure out why certain shops show up on the first page every single day? and not just the first page but that same item is on the next few pages one shop I seen up to page 11. Whats up with that?

Re: Etsy Search

I don't understand it either. Nor do I understand why some of my items show up on page 1 and then not again until page 10+.

After looking at your shop, I have to ask why you don't use the baby modeled photos as the primary? Seeing the bib on a cute baby would make me more likely to click on a listing than just a distance shot of a bib.

Re: Etsy Search

The search logic uses more than just tags, titles, and ‘recencency’ of some sort. It also factors in a couple important aspects about your shop overall.

You do need to have good titles and tags, those are the things that gets your item into a particular search list to begin with. After that, the search list needs to be sorted and that’s when the “shop weight” starts to factor in. Etsy is going to do a couple of big things. It’s going to favor shops that are good at selling their product, they are going to tend to have their items in the first pages. Etsy is also going to diversify the search list a little. It will throw in a few items here and there from less successful shops.

The size of the search and some other things matter but basically this is the pattern you see played out at various scales.
