Etsy Search Question

I'm wondering how Etsy chooses which items to prioritize when they are searched. For example, I typed "halloween earrings" in the search box and none of my items show up in the first 20 pages. I've had a couple of my Halloween items up since last year so I don't think "member longevity" has to do with it. I also notice that the ones that DID show up on the first several pages don't have the words "halloween earrings" next to eachother while my listings do. Just confused as to who gets to be on the first several pages.

Re: Etsy Search Question

None of your item titles starts with 'halloween earrings'. That might explain it.
Search engines read from left to right, just like we do. So you want the most important search words up front.

Now don't go and change ALL of your item titles, because not every buyer looks for 'halloween earrings'. Just a couple of them.

PS: how long a seller is an Etsy member has nothing to do with how relevant their items are to a buyers search.

Re: Etsy Search Question

It is a huge search tag, having lots of items in your shop will help to make you more relevant in search results. The length of time doesn't matter, its based off of Title and tags, so you need to be fully SEO optimized. Etsy uses first 3 words in title for relevancy so you could put some with Halloween earrings as your first 3 for example "Pumpkin Halloween Earrings" and for your tags put Halloween earrings as 1 tag. Hope this helps!

I have had this happen loads even when I was using search ads! My opinion is that the relevency search is flawed and biased x

Re: Etsy Search Question

The more you sell something, the more likely it is to appear. So yes it is biased towards items that are more likely to sell...

Re: Etsy Search Question

I also believe that recency is still important. SEO is the #1 thing, but I think you also have to still be recent to rank high. Just an observation from my experimenting with it.

Re: Etsy Search Question

I don't believe it's recency because my recent listings don't show up either, at least not in the first 25 pages. I've tried and tried to "decode" SEO but it feels like trying to unlock an ancient tomb. I've tried different tagging, word combos, etc. I'm looking at other items that show up on the first several pages and I feel their tagging and titles are more minimal so I'm truly stumped.
