Email vs. Convo

Which way is the better to contact customers to let them know when their order will ship etc.?

On the one hand, I know a lot of etsy buyers don't check their account everyday like I do. On the other hand, I know that I usually don't check my actual email account very often.

What do you think?

I do both - I hope I'm not being too pushy. Like you said a lot of buyers don't check etsy daily.

I agree, in my short experience as soon as I got a sale I leave a note to buyer on etsy and with paypal. and I haven't get any answers from that, but as soon I contact through e-mail they e-mail me back.

Re: Email vs. Convo

As both a buyer and seller I would probably rather just receive the convo letting me know. This is because, when I go to my email account I will have a message letting me know if someone has convo'd me.

Some people just don't respond unless they are prompted Daniblu, especially if they are busy. I'm guilty of it sometimes, but I always send a convo to let them know I've received it and then I leave feedback.

Re: Email vs. Convo

I don't use the Etsy convo system as its too hard to keep track of things and find things later.

Rather, when I get a sale, I'll send a 'thanks for your purchase' email along with any shipping information.

Many of my buyers just join Etsy on the day they make their purchase and I really don't feel that its necessary for them to have to jump through hoops to get information from me.

I just email them, i find it easier if i have everything in one place and can always look back, although I am sure you can do that with a convo

Re: Email vs. Convo

I wish Etsy would send a message to buyers letting them know the seller has messaged them, even if they have disabled emails from Etsy. Yes, it's cool if they want to opp out of the newsletters. It's not so okay if the seller has important info and doesn't want to email & convo them (for fear of spamming). It worries me that a buyer won't get my messages and will be upset...

Re: Email vs. Convo

I convo them (since they purchased on here I try to keep it all on here) but am more patient. If a buyer didn't respond to my convo after a few days or I had some time-sensitive issue, I'd email them.

Re: Email vs. Convo

you know when u click check on the shipping it gives you an option to "notify the buyer" I just use that or the convos.. coz they will both go to their email :)

Re: Email vs. Convo

I do use the shipping notification when an item is shipped, but I like to let the buyer know when their order is expected to ship out so I usually convo them. Thought, now I'm thinking I might switch to email.. I don't want to do both either, that could be spammy, especially if they didn't turn off Etsy's convo notifications..

Re: Email vs. Convo

I have my account set up that when I get a convo here it's sends me an email, though I'm not sure if there is a way to change that and if people actually do.

But when someone buys an item from me I have in the seller note that they will get an email from Paypal that will say when their order ships, which gets triggered when I print out the shipping labels from them...

Re: Email vs. Convo

I prefer email as i feel more people use it, its easy to keep track of and etsy can make things a bit complicated.
