Hi Etsy Success Friends,

All of us have been like little sponges, soaking up the tips for success this week. Sometimes we just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at our shop and say - "Hey, you forgot to use this tag!" or "You might try this title!"

The rules:
1. You are at least moderately up-to-date with the suggestions for Relevancy and
good tagging < http://www.etsy.com/teams/7716/announcements/discuss/8822575/>

2. If you pop into this thread and want to be critiqued yourself, you can join by critiquing the last shop that commented. The next person to pop in will critique you.

3. You don't have to look at every listing and every tag. . . but try to come up with a few suggestions . . .Words or Synonyms that you think would help with relevancy search.

Who wants to go first?

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

Oh, and also, BunnysBakedGoods, good news is that your listings start to pop up on just the 2nd page when looking for "3 tier cake stand". noticed that the tags for the one on the first page do feature "china" "english china" and "ceramics and pottery", etc

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

@ ConffettiWestern

* First think of the first advise " try put the most important keywords and phrases at the front of your titles" so instead of ;

Vintage 1960's Light Pink Floral Summer Dress
Try better=
Vintage Summer Dress 1960 Light Pink Floral

or

Hipster Halloween- Set of 5 Greeting Cards, Blank Inside, Vampire Boyo and Witch Girlie
Try better=
Greeting Cards Set of Five Hipster Halloween Blank Inside, Vampire Boyo and Witch Girlie

I really don't know if the commas and (-) affects the title, but thinking as a consumer I would not use that in my search, so try don't use that in titles.

Looking at your tags, I search for the world "orange" and just two listings came up. For example, look at this one=

http://www.etsy.com/listing/74883229/joanna-newsom-oil-painting-study-on

Instead of using =
"Oil"
"painting"
and then "oil painting"
folk harp
harp art
harp
harpist

Try to describe the piece, maybe the color, that is a portrait, that is unique, ooak (one of a kind), etc...

Look at this one too...

http://www.etsy.com/listing/74884668/horse-sculpture-two-glitter-pony-cans

Some of your tags are =
glitter painting
glitter sculpture
glitter art
glitter and ribbon
glitter cans
glitter

If you take out that "glitter world" you will have the perfect tags. You should include the colors too.

Hope that helps. Good Luck!

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

Hi Prendasbyenid,

I would love a critique and you were the next in line so I went over to critique yours. Looked great to me so I found it hard to critique.

I wondered why these earrings had less views than other ones: http://www.etsy.com/listing/77273976/copper-earrings-the-red-coral so thought I would check it out. Most of your earring listings started with the title Earrings, so I'm wondering if "Earrings - copper chain the red coral " might get more views.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but you already are doing a great job! I'm actually looking at your previous post for advice!

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

@prendasbyenid: I looked at your first listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/72140016/earrings-the-coin-plus-red

A few things:

Title: I'd be more specific with the title. With so many earrings for sale, it's unlikely you'll top the relevancy searches for "Earrings," so you are probably better off optimizing for another phrase, such as "Red crystal earrings" or "Silver Coin Earrings," so I'd incorporate one of those phrases as the first part of the title, then make an identical tag, so if someone searches one of those phrases, you'll come up close to the top. Throw in the same phrase near the top of your description, too, for good measure.

Here are some possible tags:

silver coin earrings
coin earrings
french coin earrings
casual jewelry
read beaded earrings
dangle earrings
republique francaise (you have this tag, but there is a misspelling)
red crystal earrings
beaded jewellery (British spelling)
elegant jewelry

In general, longer tags that have phrases a person might actually search are going to optimize you for relevancy, then incorporating as many of those tag words as you can into your description paragraph.

You have a very pretty selection, well presented. Best wishes to you!

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

So I went to lauraslastditch and fell in love! Im still new to etsy, and learning everyday. The photos are lovely, and the estetic of the shop is wonderful. All of the colors are pleasing to the eye! The prices seem reasonable and the tags all look to be in order. I have to favorite your shop, because it makes me smile :)
I wish I could give more advice, or suggestions but laura seems to be on top of her game :)

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

Aeliosdesign: wow!!! Everything is so beautiful! You really can see how much time and love you have put into each item. Your tags are great. Your descriptions for each piece of jewelry is really helpful for the buyer! I think its great how you explain how each piece came to be. The photos are beautiful! I also love the story about your grandmother in your about me section. Again, I guess I am not the best critic, because I have no constructive critiscm. But you don't need it! All of your tags make sense. Maybe you could add more pictures of you jewelry being worn? I always like seeing how jewelry looks on someone else before I buy... But even thats not anything you really have to do. Going through your pages, the shop just has a good flow. You are very talented! I am nlown away :) <3 oh also, I think your prices are resonable as well!

Much love!

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

@lauraslastditch Hello!

The first thing I noticed was that in material you have single words, ie: aluminum, lid. Maybe this would get a better result as a phrase?

Your titles are relevant. Everything is titled as exactly what it it. The only thing I would change is the '-' and the '/'. Hyphens and slashes apparently confuse bots and they don't continue reading for words, but think a command is coming... (? or so I've been told). It's easier on the eyes with that type of punctuation, but not search friendly.

Great way to achieve a loyal client base! I love that you just come out and say "add me to your favourites" It's great, and I bet it really works!

Generally, I see that you use try to use all 13 tags in most of your listings. So that's great, maybe top up the ones that have less?

Sorry this took so long... very overwhelmed by the 400+ items.

Best of luck!

Re: Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

HI casmira -

I just checked out your shop, all the items, and can't find much to offer advice on. Your photos are clear and crisp and show all parts of the items. Your tags seem to cover all the bases.

Just very small items (15 years as an English teacher, sorry!!) -

on African Jungle Animal Collage Wall Art for Baby, you spelled nursery incorrectly in tags.

on Original Abstract Acrylic Teal White Painting, I'd like to see the painting on the side you mention.

on Black and White Animals & Alphabet Baby Name Banner you spelled jack russell incorrectly in tags.

How about adding the word "personalized" to your tags?

Best of luck!
Donna
