I've noticed several listings (especially in bath and body) where a weight is not indicated for the product and from what I can tell it doesn't seem to have a negative impact on their sales...
I am making jewelry and we - the makers- do nto really indicate the weight but we are indicating the size by either writing or with pictures. But I think if I was to buy a baty and body product wheter online or actual shop, I would check the weigth I mean how much in the bottle. So I think you should make a change and indicate in your listings.
I put in my soap listings how much it weighs, always. It's an approximation, because when cold process soap cures, it loses some weight as the water evaporates out. But I do try to get something in there - because, yeah, size DOES matter.
I agree..I have been disappointed in soaps in particular that don't specify weight.
Photos often make items look larger and can be misleading, not intentionally. Stating the size or weight always clears up an issue with a buyer, if they are unsatisfied, as it was clearly mentioned in your listing.
(Erin, couldn't you just state the weight of the bar after drying? You have some beautiful jewelry btw!)
P.S. I only buy handmade soap and it is so awesome because the bars last sooooooooooooooo much longer than store bought soap. It's amazing. Plus they smell better and feel 100% better on your skin. . .
I think listing the size and ingredients is important to many. I can say that this fact is often over looked even by myself. I'm off the double check our listings....
I can, but the bar loses water for a while after being made. So it's an approximation. But ever after that, my bars will still weigh between 5 and 6 ounces each. And that's how I state it.
And thank you! :D This was my first shop, and it's my baby.
For my bar Soaps I def. list the weight in ounces, and for my Soap Favors I Have a Size Comparison Picture. If I were buying Soap, and No size was Listed, I would Most likely click off it.
I am an Impulse Buyer at times, So I Don't want to have to wait for a convo back Re: Something I want to buy most of the time lol
I have looked at lots of items that I would like to buy, but the measurements of the items are not included in the item's description!!!! It is a total turn off! When that happens to me I go elsewhere!
I would definately want to know the size I was buying! Much easier to just include the info in your listing than make people who do care have to convo you.
When I am shopping, if it doesn't give me measurements, weight, or a visual comparison with an object that has a well known size, I won't take the time to ask the shop owner. I just look elsewhere.
I agree as a buyer, I would want to know what and how much I am actually paying for. It's really upsetting when you thing you'll get this big tub of lotion and only get a little tub. It would put me off from purchasing.
I sell jewelry stones and I think weight matters. Some people want heavier items, some more delicate. Anyway jewelry stones are traditionally sold by carat or gram
I haver to agree with the rest of you, it's really important to state the weight or volume of any bath and body or cosmetic products. If I'm paying 15$ for a soap or lotion, I want to know if I'm getting 4 or 8 oz.
Also a lot of shops seem to be missing the ingredient in their listings, which I think would be super important to mention. I wouldn't buy anything I don't know what's in it, especially if it's something to use on my skin.
Oh, listing the ingredients is a must for me! Matter of fact, I had someone joke the other day she'd never seen soap with so few ingredients in it before. LOL
It was a basic bar of unscented soap, and it's pretty Plain Jane, but it is oh so good to use.
I agree that in most cases it does matter. I don't want to pay $5.00 for a tiny bar of soap. And as far as jewelry goes it makes a difference also especially with bracelets. I don't want to buy something, get it here and it doesn't fit either too big or too small.
I think size is very important. If you don't put it in the listing it will simply be more convos that you will have to answer because people cant hold it or actually see it so they want to know measurements.
An approximate weight range is listed in our listings (as mentioned before, weight will reduce a little as an item continues to cure and dry). One of the changes etsy made fairly recently was to hide the materials portion of the listing, so now you have to click on the "show item details" to see our ingredients, but we do list those because often that is the difference between our product and another and they are important to us too!
@ Karyn, lol you have a great shop.i don't think you need to worry.
I am of the impression that we bath & body shops are legally bound to list the size and even if it is measured in fl or wt oz. I certainly have it on all labels and I am 99.9% sure that I list it in each and every listing. As others said..how can you compare what you get?
