Does anyone use Google Analytics?

I just discovered this wonderful tool recently and even more recently realized I can see real time views in my shop. This of course, fascinates me! I can see when someone is there, where they are from and what pages they are looking at. As I said, fascinating. This said, I just noticed something. I was looking at the real time data on GA, saw that 3 people were in my shop, went back to etsy stats about 5 minutes later and my stats had not gone up. Do you think there is a lag for Etsy? Just curious I guess :)

I check it, but I haven't figured out how to use the information to my advantage yet.

I am still trying to figure that out myself Jen and if I do I will let you know. Right now I am just having fun with Real Time Beta :) Its like spying on your own shop!

Yes, I think Etsy shows a lag. However, Google Analytics also shows ALL traffic to your shop, including your own. Etsy does not show you how many times you view your own shop and items. Analaytics will. So if you had your own shop open while viewing analytics, it could be tracking your traffic, which is why it didn't show up in Etsy stats

You can have GA exclude traffic from your own computer.

HI, so I just started using Google Analytics, definitely make sure your own computer's IP address is excluded. Also, I noticed an opposite lag time, where Etsy stats said I had a bunch of views, but GA is only showing me up to yesterday's information. I am curious how to use the information it's giving me- that over 80% of the people visiting my store are not 'new' visitors, but returning viewers... ?

It`s fascinating but i found it does not mean much.You can have lots of views for ages and no sales and then a sale on a day with 2 views!

I think Google Analytic is a lot sharper than Etsy when it comes to stats. I enjoy seeing all the people from different countries that visit my shop, even though I totally agree with Molly Knitted. My last sale came in on a day when I had very few visitors and the buyer had just joined Etsy on that same day.

Just search for Google Analytics and go from there. Or, if you're already a Google member, just add Analytics to your tools and then add Etsy to your Analytics. I had to read a lot to understand how to use it but they give you a LOT of written instructions. I hardly ever go there, though. I think Etsy's stats are enough to get me obsessed about my visitors, lol.

Use it? Nope, I pretty much ABUSE it.

If I'm doing something where I'm not on my computer I leave the real time up to watch it.

Hell, I even once pulled it up on my phone in the middle of nowhere...

I'm addicted. I figured it out last week some time and I've been watching the real time ever since. I know it doesn't mean much, but it's still fun.

How do you exclude your own ip address? Haven't figured that out yet.
