Do you link to your blog/website?

Do you have a link to your blog or website in your listings or profile?

I used to, but then I read some advice that it might navigate people away instead of having them make a purchase. But I wonder - it seemed like having it there gave people a chance to really get to know me.

I'm curious to know what others do and if you have any feeling for what the results are.

I do still give the address for my blog/website in follow up convos.

Thanks!
Mary

Re: Do you link to your blog/website?

I actually had the same thought! I hadn't been linking to my blog from my listings anymore, but maybe I will change that. Sometimes there's more of a story behind an item, but I don't want to drive people away with too many words in my listing.

So maybe I will start linking to my blog again if there's a significant story behind my item.

I still link to my blog in my shop intro section & profile though. I do think people can get to know & remember you better that way, even if they don't convo or buy from you yet - it may open it up for future purchases or referrals.

Just a thought.

I include a link to our blog and facebook.
It's not going to drive people away, it will drive them to make a purchase; people like stories. They want to know who makes what they're buying. That's the fundamental impulse in buying handmade

I link to Facebook and twitter on the shop itself and have a list of links that include the blog and other etsy shops in my profile. My blog is more than just soap so it wouldn't make sense to send buyers there.

I link to twitter and my blog. Not sure what it does with customers.

I link to my website and blog in my profile. I figure that is a good place because if they are interested enough in me they will go there to read and then they can go to my blog. From my stats I don't get a lot of views in my profile.

Re: Do you link to your blog/website?

It is up to the individual really but on SASsy we suggest not to include any external links anywhere in a shop as they are all potential exit routes out of a shop even if they aren't active links. One thing to avoid doing is putting the same thing in every listing as this is the same as boilerplate text which isn't liked by Google Shopping and can be seen as spammy by bots for indexing on search engines. It's difficult to prove yay on nay on either (unless you have a ton of rejections from Shopping) but it is a possibility.
