Do you accept returns?

Have just been asked for the first time if I accept returns. I never stated my policy, but now I am wondering what others do when asked?

We don't for change of mind, and offer a replacement if something turns up damaged.

It depends on why they want to return the item, and what your state laws are.. you might find that if you haven't specified a returns policy that you have to take an item back. If you haven't already I'd also suggest you fill in your returns policy straight away!

No questions asked. Full refund upon return. If damaged in shipment full refund. But returns must be quick. Don't write me three months later and ask for a refund

It's never come up for me before, thankfully! But I do, if they are damaged I offer a replacement. If something isn't up to standards I will refund after the item is returned in original and sellable condition wit the buyer paying return shipping.

Any custom orders are only replaced though.

I sell some delicate items and occasionally there is damage. I refund immediately. If I think I can salvage the item I will pay return shipping. If it is of no use to me the customer can keep it. My customers are willing to show me pictures also. Nice people

Since I am a supplier some of the artists have a change of creative thinking and will return. They then pay the return shipping. It never fails that the returned item sells again quickly. So everybody is happy

I offer replacement if item is damaged or "grossly misrepresented". But since I sell hats, it would be pretty impossible for them to get damaged during transit ... No refunds on customized items that I would not be able to sell to anyone else, because in this case customer would get photos before I ship it out.

I also have it stated in my policies that they need to contact me before sending anything back, and do it within 15 days of receiving the item. Item has to be shipped back similarly packaged, and I will only issue refund (minus shipping) after I have received it.

I think it's fair to both sides.

My return/refund policy is as follows:

"I offer a one week (7 day) "manufacturer defect " refund. If you feel your item is defective in some way, please contact me within this time period and I will be happy to work with you. No refunds after that time. In order to receive a refund, the item must be post-marked to me in original condition within 2 weeks (14 days) of contacting me. Refund will be issued when I receive the item. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs as those cannot be refunded."

My fabric items really can't be damaged in transit and I package them very well in water-proof mailing materials. I don't offer "buyer's remorse" refunds... only if they item has a significant blemish/torn seam/etc. I've looked at many return policies for larger companies, and they have very similar policies. Of course, there are always special circumstances than can arise (and I encourage buyer's to contact me to work things out) but you have to try and draw the line somewhere. :)

I offer a 90 day complete satisfaction guarantee. They can return or exchange it for any reason within 90 days. It has to be in like new shape(so that I can still sell it) and they have to cover shipping both ways.

I figure the worst I'm out is the time spent packaging and sending. While they have the guarantee that they will love it or their money back. The fact that they still have to pay shipping keeps people from buyer's remorse on a whim.

I offer returns besides for damages since I make dance costume pieces which may not quite fit well enough to truly dance in, but they won't know that until they try it on. It has to be in original condition and sent back to me, postmarked within 7 days of it arriving in their mail (I use delivery confirmation so I know when they got it). I have to get it back before I issue the refund. I also don't refund shipping except in the case of damages.

Haven't had a return yet online, and the only offline return I had I actually just tweaked for her and she was thrilled to get it back with a better fit. I would probably offer the same for a return on a bra or belt here on Etsy too.

I offer a 'no questions asked' return within a reasonable amount of time. Notification must be within 24 hrs of receipt, item must be shipped back in new condition and shipping both ways is on the buyer except in the case of a defect or damage which must be documented.

Its the kind of policy I'd want as a buyer.

Absolutely. You can never tell if you are going to like a piece of jewelry if you don't try it on and you can't do that without buying first. Of course, I have a time limit. I don't want something coming back after a month of wearing it or just because someone decided it no longer goes with the cloths they have.

I do not accept returns. But I sell soaps and personal care items. If I had a dissatisfied customer I would definitely do something to make them happy..but I don't know what, I've never had one yet

I accept returns within 2 weeks for any reason if they pay the return shipping and the item is in the same/ new condition. Why not? Gives the buyer peace of mind and confidence.

My policy is simple. If they aren't satisfied then they return the item postmarked within 7 days of receipt. I don't pay for return shipping.

With some time limitations, I accept returns and provide a full refund if a piece is defective or a I make a definite mistake in describing the item. And I will exchange an item for another of equal value if the purchase doesn't work out for a purely personal reason.

But I can't produce enough stock to be able to send people my work to try on. Mail from Canada and back can take weeks.

95% of my business is local, not mail order, and I can not advertise one set of policies in my Etsy shop and another for local people who read these policies. If I do not have a piece for even a few busy hours at our local Market, I may have lost several opportunities to sell this piece.

I would have to make a lot more money than I do now to be able to shrug off a few lost sales because of indecisive customers. Maybe offering a 10 day no questions asked return policy would improve my sales and make up for the occasional losses. Maybe not. Someday maybe I will be in a position to offer a 1 month special where I allow this, and see if there is a really positive response. But at this time of year, when I am scrambling to keep my stock up, there is just no way I can offer that kind of mail order customer service.

Yes, I accept returns. I must be notified in 3 days and shipped back by 7 days. I don't return shipping fees unless my fault or damaged.
