Do Promotion Teams Help?

I have heard that joining a promotion team helps your shop. However, when I look at promotion teams, I have a hard time finding one I want to join. It seems like the teams are one are either big on posting links within Etsy and leaving or they have a lot of rules to follow. I was hoping to find a team to help me on promoting outside of Etsy. What has been your experience? Does posting links within Etsy help get sales?

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

Promotional teams: Not really. Most of them are filled with people just promoting their own stuff, without an actual audience who is going to take time to CLICK on anything.

But treasury teams can help you get exposure. Business teams can help you learn abut things like SEO, photography, marketing, etc and THAT will help you tremendously.

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

Business teams, treasury teams, I'd say none of my business comes from promotion teams and I'm unconvinced of the value of them, they're more dash and run sort of things.

Honestly, self promotion on your social media pages, and constantly talking Etsy are your best chances for survival.

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

I did a promo team once; I wasn't too thrilled with the results, the same with buy-in treasuries; you mostly have an audiance from THAT group.

I'm doing a weekly treasury with one of my other teams & that does quite well generatting a lot of outside team views & clicks, although no sales *yet*. Everyweek we pick a challenge (blue treasury, dress treasury, Mad men treasury, etc) and at the end of the week I make a treasury. The most views I've gotten from one is about 150; plus many of them are from people other than fellow team mates. This way, too, you can have a cohesive treasury, rather than some of the promo ones are stuff from anybody and everyone, no rhythem & no theme (mostly), so this way you can have some control over the treasury look :-)

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

What Gena said!

Promotional teams are just like a room full of people using bullhorns, shouting their own names. No one is actually LISTENING. You can go to them and post your items and treasuries there if you like, but I find no one is really favoriting my things that I post there.

On the other hand, small focused treasury teams can be wonderful support and exposure for your shop. I'd look for one of those that fits your requirements!

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

This is good information... I agree that they all seem to be hit and run, and I would rather invest time in things that make a difference.

It's better to find your local teams, or teams that are dedicated to discussion like this one is, you really don't get far with teams and sales, it's your other promoting that is what gets you sales.

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

Promotional teams are filled with posts from people who drop a link and run. I've gotten a number of views from promo teams, but not a long-lasting customer base.

I agree with Gena and Jaie! Choose teams that are full of good information, and promote yourself on your other sites, too (FB, Twitter, etc.)

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

I belong to Pay It Forward team and it has been very helpful in getting me views/sales. We are a treasury making team and it works like this. If someone features your shop in a treasury, you have 10 days to pay them back by including their shop in your treasury. We encourage all members to tweet, facebook, etc...

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

I recently joined the Promo Frenzy team and it's been great! http://www.etsy.com/teams/7512/promotional-frenzy-team There are a lot of requirements because everyone has to promote everyone else's items, but it really has increased my views. It's also a lot of fun and a really great group of people. If you're willing to make the time commitment, then I'd suggest looking into a team like that.

Re: Do Promotion Teams Help?

Hello all. I have a question on the Pay it forward or treasury teams. I was just looking at the actual treasury's made and see that in alot of cases, the only comments are from those that were featured. I'm considering joining but can anyone tell me the benefits if the only ones commenting are featured artisans?

I'm on treasury type team on another venue, and not sure that I've seen great results, but I'd like to try something....

thanks!
