Discounts to Return Customers

Do you give discounts to customers that buy for their next purchase? I love this idea but am unsure how much to give them off. A percentage or free shipping?

I give every customer a coupon code for free shipping in the hopes that they will come back. . .

It's a fabulous idea since return customers is generally where you make most of your business! Make them happy, give them incentives, give them good service and great products and people will come back! =)

I do 10% for return customers. I have had one or two use it so far.

I offer a 10% discount to customers who buy less expensive things and a 15% discount to customers who buy one of my more expensive items (wall hangings). I send the coupon code along with my thank you note in their package. Great for customer relations!

I too enclose a thank you card and a code for a 20% courtesy off their next visit. Haven't had any one use it yet, though.

I plan to give all my return customers a discount of 10%. I think that's a fair discount.

I think it's a good idea to keep current customers as happy as possible.

As an aside, I bought homemade marshmallows from one seller here, I didn't get a thank you, any feedback or coupon or any aftercare. Plus, I calculated the shipping costs based on the method they used and it was about 1/4 what they charged me. Needless to say, I will get my handmade marshmallows elsewhere in the future.

I make little coupons with a 20% off coupon code that I send out with orders. I've had a few customers come back and use them.

My Etsy store has just had it's 2nd birthday and I have only just started doing the 10% discount for return customers (in the last fortnight). Before then I just gave good customer service and handwritten notes etc.. most people seemed to come back as repeat customers without the discount but I will be interested to see if the new discount works even better?

you know, my wife calls me a party pooper for my thinking on discounts. If someone is offering 40% OFF, i assume that most of time they are charging too much. in fact there was on online store that i used to shop at that ALWAYS had 25% off your entire order. i got used to it and now that they stopped the discounts i wont come back because i am paying 25% more in what i believe is pure profit.

i dont want to give the impression that i am always overcharging and people should wait for a sale. I would rather give a discount that is appealing but doesnt force the buyer to shop only with the discount. the last i want a customer to say to a friend is "i love the stuff there but i get 20% off and would advise you to wait for sale"

i know this model wont appeal to all buyers but customers in the higher end are used to few if any discounts on quality products so i am hopeful my 10% off works for me and not against me.

of course i could be 10000% wrong and just screwing my self over so i will see.

i forgot to add that i used http://www.randomcodegenerator.nl/ a random code generator to generate 1000 coupon codes, so that each customer will get their own code and i can track its use!

I was enclosing a 10% discount cuopon for more than a year with the package - good for purchases w/i 6 months. Never had anyone use it - some said they "held on to it" but then it expired.

I send them a coupon code for 10% off their next order from my shop - I think it's a great gesture to offer your customers and hopefully something they will appreciated and use for repeat business. Good luck!

I give out a 10% off your next purchase in the note to customer for their first purchase, but only one person has used it so far.

In each order I add a post card with a coupon code to give to a friend and I add a coupon code with each order with a 10% off coupon code for all future purchases. My customers love it! It helps to reward your regulars and establish a personal relationship.

I have started enclosing a card with a coupon code for 15% off for return costumers. I think it's always a good idea to let your buyers know that you appreciated their business and what better way than a discount? =D
