Direct Checkout?

I've been away from Etsy for several months because of health issues and when I came back, WOW! A whole new Etsy! Direct checkout, a new "Your Feed", gift cards, and I've also heard about a new search or something.
But what I really want to know is, how is direct checkout working for you? Are you getting more sales from the gift cards, ect, or are the extra fees causing you and your customers problems? At this point I have not gotten DC, but should I? I've only gotten one sale since I opened back up again and I am wondering if not having DC could be one of the reasons?

Re: Direct Checkout?

Most of our customers choose to use DC. We haven't had any issues. Our sales have gone up considerably since have DC but not sure if that is directly correlated? I love your shop. I'm thinking as soon as you get a few more items your sales will have to follow.

We haven't gotten any sales from gift cards. Hoping that the Christmas gift cards will be showing up in our shop very soon!

Re: Direct Checkout?

There are no extra fees....i think DC might be .25% more expensive than PayPal...but that's pennies.

I love DC...having to log into my paypal is so annoying to pay...i have my credit card all registered with etsy so it takes like 5 clicks to purchase something...soooooooo easy. =)

...and i'd say it's 50/50 paypal purchases or DC purchases for my shop

Re: Direct Checkout?

I say the more you offer in your shop, the better, people use it and it seems to be working great! Gift cards haven't happened for me.

Re: Direct Checkout?

I agree with Kathleen, there is no way you will know what sales you miss by not having direct checkout. Out of my last 10 sales maybe 3 of them were direct checkout. The fee is pretty minimal.

Re: Direct Checkout?

I offer the Drect and it's great-no problems and easier to refund shipping overages!

Re: Direct Checkout?

I offer both paypal and direct check out in my shop. The fees are so similar between the two, that it's doesn't make any difference financially for me. I don't believe that offering direct check out has resulted in an increase in volume of sales; however, most of my customers are choosing to pay through direct checkout.

Re: Direct Checkout?

I do agree that DC is faster, for me anyway. Since it was made available that is the only way I have payed when buying off of Etsy. DC seams to be a default payment method with most shops though, which makes is easier and faster.

Re: Direct Checkout?

Hi there- Welcome back to Etsy!

I have direct checkout and Paypal. I have never once had a customer complain about Paypal, though most customers do use DC. My sales have not increased as a result of offering DC though.

I have considered canceling DC recently. In order to use it for printing shipping labels, you can't have a bill higher than a certain dollar amount (regardless of when the Etsy bill is due). I sell fairly high-priced items, so I hit that limit early in the billing cycle. Etsy requires that you prepay your bill in order to buy the postage. It's very frustrating. If I decide I don't want to do that, I have to go to the USPS website to buy the postage there, which takes longer because I have to input the addresses. When the customer checks out with PayPal it's very easy to print postage labels, which is why I'm considering canceling DC. Initially I was excited about DC because I thought printing labels would be easier, but I've found it a challenge. I would much prefer one of the following systems:
1) pay for postage as I go
2) have postage added to my monthly bill
3) have postage deducted from my DC payment

I'd be curious to hear if other people are having similar frustrations or have solutions I don't know about.

We saw an increase in sales and most sales are through direct checkout - have not had one problem with it :)

Re: Direct Checkout?

Since I signed up for DC it's about 9 to 1 for DC. My sales have increased, but I do not know if that is DC or other things I'm doing to market.

I've had a few emails from people where they had trouble with Paypal, never a complaint about Direct Checkout.

Re: Direct Checkout?

@Amanda Barden, you can print a shipping label through Paypal even if someone uses another form of payment. They have a feature called multi-order shipping where you can manually enter the shipping address. I used it until I started using Etsy shipping exclusively.

My shop accepts both Paypal and DC. The last seven out of eight sales were paid with direct checkout. The fees are comparable to Paypal so that's never been an issue for me. As a buyer I prefer Paypal. I don't like to keep credit cards on file on different websites and I don't like typing in account information, both for security reasons.

I love the Etsy shipping feature and use it all the time. You can even print out international shipping labels and customs forms. My sales are smaller dollar amounts so I've never had a problem with having to pay my Etsy bill before I could print a shipping label. I think I read somewhere that the cut-off is $50.

Re: Direct Checkout?

Welcome back !
Most of my sales have been with direct checkout. I was hesitant about d.c., but I love it now. It seems to bring in a lot of first time buyers. I think it is worth trying. : )

Re: Direct Checkout?

I have noticed a BIG increase in sales when I added DC, I have in fact, more sales I think because of it.

Check out my store, I have lots of great wreaths for Spring and Easter!

Re: Direct Checkout?

@Judy- thanks. You can do that on USPS.com too, which is really nice because I can then easily schedule my package pickup - one of the best services ever! I prefer not to have to manually enter the addresses though in order to reduce the likelihood of error.
