Direct Checkout question

So I (FINALLY) got access to Direct Checkout. I set it up on Sunday and have been waiting for the 2 Etsy deposits so I can connect my bank account.

The thing is - I already got someone who checked out using this option. It is a small purchase - only about $12 including shipping.

It says that it could take another 2-3 days for the ACH credits from Etsy to show up in my bank account, and then another 2-5 to see the money in my account.

It wouldn't be fair for me to keep this bracelet from the buyer for another week just because DC is taking a while to set-up... but it also wouldn't be fair to me to lose the $10, in case DC doesn't work out or gets messed up

What would you do in this scenario?

Should I send the bracelet and just hope Direct Checkout works itself out? Or do I wait?

Maybe you should post this question in one of the forums to get an answer from Admin.

Re: Direct Checkout question

I would just send your bracelet. $10 is not that much, even on the VERY small chance that something goes wrong. And by shipping quickly, you get a customer that is happy and may likely return. It's worth the risk. And if something didn't work out with direct checkout, I'm sure you could convo the buyer and work things out later.

I just turned on my Direct Checkout also! Haven't had any sales with it yet, however. :-)

Re: Direct Checkout question

Jean - That is a good idea. I generally come here with my questions, since you all are so prompt and knowledgeable, but maybe they have a company policy on this?

Kelly - I signed up for DC 6-7 weeks ago, they just finally gave it to me. I am surprised to see that it shows up on my page as an option, even though I haven't fully set it up yet.

Re: Direct Checkout question

I agree with Kelly, I would send it.

I also just turned on my direct checkout, also haven't had any sale with it.

Re: Direct Checkout question

Maggie - I'm just waiting for that deposit in my checking acct like you... Likewise, it shows up as a payment option on my page also. I just go with the flow and don't worry about it.

Re: Direct Checkout question

Hi Kelly,
most likely everything will be fine. I set mine up about a month or so ago, and I've had no problems. It's not really the buyers fault that you haven't been confirmed yet, so I would send the bracelet. Plus it's normal for a customer to make their purchase and etsy to deposit your money on a scheduled day with DC - you do not need to hold their item.
Everything should work out as far as confirming you bank acct and receiving your money from etsy. If for some reason you have an issue..take it up with etsy, since it would be a problem between you and them anyway, not your customer. :) Hope all goes well!

Re: Direct Checkout question

Thanks for the input Gina and Kelly - I think I will just send the bracelet and hope everything works out OK! If not, then I think you take it up with Etsy/your bank... You are right - the customer did everything fine... I just need to figure things out on my end

Re: Direct Checkout question

I have had the direct checkout option, but have read of so many problems and always having to wait for payment to clear - not going to even entertain direct checkout until I hear more positive feedback.

Re: Direct Checkout question

The same thing happened to me! Friends ordered stuff weeks ago and the payment left their account but still isn't in mine!

Re: Direct Checkout question

Even if you wait for the accounts to be link, the money from your purchase won't even be available to you until it's shipped.

This happened to me as well, I got a DC order on hours after I'd turned it on, still waiting for everything to link, only moine was closer to $100.

Anyway, I did get the money in the end no problem, about 2 weeks later...

Re: Direct Checkout question

I want to point out that DC will not go through if they money isn't there, they have the money. Etsy keeps it until you ship. So don't worry about waiting for the money in case it doesn't go through, it will. :)

Re: Direct Checkout question

I recently had a similar situation. A buyer placed an order and asked to pay with credit instead of PayPal. I signed up for the direct checkout for them and my account was verified today. When I go to the invoice for the order it says not paid. The buyer sent me what looked like records showing the money was taken out of their account. DC says $0 is available for deposit and I can begin depositing funds in 6 days. So, does that mean the item was paid but it will be after the 26th when it shows on etsy? If so, how long does it take once it shows on etsy to deposit to my bank? Also, when is it safe to ship the item?

Re: Direct Checkout question

All of my direct checkout transactions have worked out fine, even after I screwed everything up by putting in the wrong bank account number!

ArtisticExpressions - You won't get any money until the item is marked as shipped, even after your account is verified.

Re: Direct Checkout question

Thanks, Sara! So I can safely ship it now then? How would we know if the funds were available or not if we can't see them until after we ship?

Re: Direct Checkout question

ArtisticElements - did you check your sold orders? It should say paid there, if it doesn't don't ship. But DC will say no money is available for deposit until you mark the item shipped so that part makes sense.

Re: Direct Checkout question

Hi Erica and Jeb,
under sold orders it says "not paid" and payment method selected was "other". Could it be that it was paid under other instead of direct checkout because I made dc available after the order was placed? I sent etsy a message but it can take a while to hear back.
