Direct Checkout - is it available outside the US yet?

I am confused as this post seems to say so from a couple of weeks ago -

Yet it still says in my settings -


"In order to accept direct checkout, your billing address must be in the United States."

I'm in the UK. Perhaps it is still in development?

I think its currently being rolled out and we will be getting a convo when it becomes available to each international shop... i havent decided whether or not I'll offer it yet but havent received the message anyway

Same here (Netherlands)! I was excited that paying with an Etsy Gift cards became an option, but I think it's still in development.

Yes the gift card option would be excellent, I don't really understand why it's a problem to make that an option.

I will definitely do DC when it comes out, the amount of customers I have who get totally perplexed by paypal and think they have to sign up for an account to use it it quite a lot so will save a lot of guiding them through it!

Me too! Have been waiting to hear if we are going to have it in the UK.

I'm still not 100% sure that I'll take it up, as most people do have Paypal now.

Still no sign of it in my canadian shop. I'm pretty anxious because I've heard from people I know "I want to buy something but it keeps taking me to a different site. I thought you were on etsy?" and then the paypal chat begins, and I hate you need an account with them, too. No DC is holding us back! Get the lead out, etsy! :P

I am still umming and ahhing about DC but it would be nice to have the option, considering we are paying the same fees as those with it.... hmmmmmm. I suppose Etsy are still crossing the t's and dotting those i's to make sure it doesn't go tit's up!

It actually amazes me how many people actually don't have paypal, I would say at least once a week a buyer emails me to ask how to pay by card as they don't have paypal.

I wonder if I am also losing those customers that don't bother to email me. It would be great if there are stats somewhere from Etsy on how often is is used in comparison with paypal? Surely this info must be available somewhere?

Ella, I only take PayPal payments too, but our buyers can pay us through PayPal without having to have a PayPal account. This is how I started my shop policies:

"• We accept PayPal payments only.
• If you don't have a PayPal account, you can still pay us with your credit card through PayPal: https://www.etsy.com/help/article/361 "

You might want to do that too.


I'm in Belgium. No DC available here yet. That being said: I am not going to use it anyway.
For several reasons, like:
- I don't trust Etsy with my money. Etsy is run in an unprofessional way and often makes mistakes, like publicly stating our private info.
- PayPal is much safer.
- As a buyer PayPal is much easier and safer: only give out your CC info once and in one place.
- Etsy has no 24/7 phone support.

Weird thought I had replied already but it didn't post.

Just to say... thanks Bea, really really good points to think about. And you're right it should go in the policies too as well as telling the customer when they convo. (since they presumably don't always)

I wish Etsy would make it clearer on the payment page that paypal can be used for cards and you don't need an account.
