Did I somehow 'annoy' google?

I have been following several threads here about number of sales, and while some seem to be doing very well (yay!), a lot of others, even very established sellers, seem to be not doing so well this year.
But the older this month gets, the more I feel something is seriously wrong with my shop. Views are down about 50% compared to this time last year, and sales are down more like 75%. I am a small, 'hobby' kind of shop, but last year, starting in October, I made several hundred $$ all the way through January. This year, almost nothing.
I don't promote outside of etsy, but last year I was in grad school and had very little time, this year I have been looking for a job (just got one!) and have been able to spend more time on the shop. I just got my item number up to 230. I list/relist every day. I added items other than my antique prints, so there is a little more variety.
But then, does anyone know about it? I looked up my shop on google shopping, and about 15% of my items come up. That has to be bad news, but how did it happen? I remember a long time ago doing the same check, and most of my items showed up. What did I do? Is it because my item descriptions sound similar? I read in one thread you shouldn't cut and paste. But my prints all come from the same encyclopedia, so some of the text is always the same, just 'the content' differs. Am I being punished for that?
I really don't like to complain about low sales/no sales, but I just can't explain to myself what happened. I know I am limiting myself by not using social media, but that isn't going to change. Still, I used to have decent sales this time of year, and now I don't. Is what used to be good enough just not good enough anymore, or is something else - like google ignoring me- going on?
Any suggestions are most welcome!

Re: Did I somehow 'annoy' google?

Claudia,

Google thrives on 'uniqueness' of listings so if you are simply copying and not making any changes your google placement probably won't be very high.

If you aren't doing any sort of marketing you are basically depending on your SEO for people to find you. So you will have to make sure that your titles are using phrases that your potential customers will be searching for.

I have no idea what "chromolithograph" is, but it looks like its some sort of print. However if I were looking for an Egyptian print, I'd never find yours because you don't use the word 'print' in the title.

Its fine to use the technical terms in the titles but you may also want to use the generic term as well for those who don't know what the technical term is.

You may want to read the 'critique your own shop' blog post at

for other tips that may help you.

Re: Did I somehow 'annoy' google?

Crochetgal, thank you. That is a good point. I think I started out putting chromolithograph / color print in the titles, and now am not sure why I got away from that. I usually have some 'room' left in the titles. Will put that back in.
As to the text, I just don't know what better to do. There is so much detail that differs for every single print, that I often have to research (and translate) that I keep the generics the same, for the most part. If I didn't it would take just an inordinate amount of time to list one item, and I don't feel like I can raise my prices. As it is, I am more expensive than some sellers who just don't give any details on the prints.
I wonder if I should mix up the titles somewhat, so in some cases the Chromolithograph/color print comes first. Haven't done it, because then they really all look alike...
But I will go and read the blog spot now, just wanted to respond right away!
