Demanding and hard to please customers.

Don't get me wrong, I love Etsy and everything about it. The customers have been great! However, I cannot get over this one customer that was just soooo darn demanding. She bought a pouch that was already at clearance price and then wanted me to add all these other things to it for free. Then, it had to be delivered by a certain time. Then she compared the way I made my pouch to 20 other etsy seller pouches. Now, I am furious at myself for going the EXTRA 100 miles for someone who was so unappreciative. Sorry, but just felt like venting. Can anyone relate?

Sorry you had to go through that, I can relate but don't want to get into it because whenever I do i get all upset and riled up. Finger's crossed that you don't have another customer like that again!:)

Some people are difficult to please, and that's just the way they are. Try not to take it personally! You did your best, and that's what matters.

We have all had a similar experience at one point in time but you do know you can't discuss this in these threads... it is a transactions and the same forum rules apply . :)

Re: Demanding and hard to please customers.

I understand completely - I once had a girl ask me for a 50% discount and to customize the item for her. Uh, nooooooooooo. Unfotunately, a polite "no" didn't work because she sent me 20 more messages asking me to donate it to her, comments on what she didn't like in my store, which pictures needed fixing, etc. At a certain point, you just have to say, "If you don't like it, don't buy it."

(There was no transaction involved.)

I am so sorry BitsofSugar. You were very smart to not let this person wipe his/her feet all over you so to speak. Good for you.

Re: Demanding and hard to please customers.

Sorry to hear this but it seems to be a new trend.

How about a customer who wants a special listing, waits a week to pay and then waits a week to tell you the items not good and wants to return it?

Re: Demanding and hard to please customers.

Sorry for your frustration. Shake it off like a dog....and may all your next customers be undemanding, overly appreciative, and offering to pay you twice your asking price! :>)

Re: Demanding and hard to please customers.

It sucks...when it's a buyer's market customers feel like they can say and do anything they want. At least you don't work in retail, I did that for a bit and I saw some crazy people....one lady tried to return a sweater 10 years later (she saved the receipt) because the color faded....10 yrs later....

Re: Demanding and hard to please customers.

We all have those experiences I think. How about customers who ask for a discount, extras, etc., and then never hear from them again after you agree to their requests? This happens to me quite often. I am to the point where I will not even give discounts.

Re: Demanding and hard to please customers.

There will always be difficult customers... the trick is to learn from each one how to smell them from far away and how to fend them off. It's a neverending struggle but I've learned that the more you are accomodating, the less you get respect from them.

Re: Demanding and hard to please customers.

I think this is a good time to decide how far you willing to go for free and what clearance means. For example

If something is on clearance that means to me,
No returns
No exchanges
No alterations
No adjustments
No discounts
All sales final
