Defining STYLES for Jewelry...

Can someone please help me out in picking a style or two for these pieces, and telling me what makes you think they fall into that style category?
Usually my pieces are hippie style, boho, beach, or even gypsy style (I write that one in myself) but some I cannot box into a style. I don't know if I am too close-minded about what I have and the style my pieces generally fall into.

I think I am doing a relatively okay job but this piece:

I have described as a good New Year's necklace (I sold another like it as a New Year's necklace and it was cute and sold really quickly).I don't know the style? Modern? What else could it be?

This one is also stumping me on style. It has 3 tiny raw diamonds in the glass globe, for reference. I guess it'd be a cool bridesmaid or anniversary or bride to be gift? But what about the style?

This simple piece is not easily bxed into a style or two, either, to me:

Last of all this one (I know I badly need to rephotograph my items) it is kinda fancy being 3 strand but not formal:

Thank you so much, friends! You are endlessly helpful to me.
Namaste.

Re: Defining STYLES for Jewelry...

Hi Tarren, I paid for a critique and was told it is best not to put in a Style, Recipient or Occassion. Best leave them blank, otherwise you will only be chosen for those particular styles. It works for me, if that's any help.

Good luck :)

@Tarren, It looks like you're struggling like I am. In fact the last 2 remind me of the style I'm trying to put my finger on for some of mine.

@Annyse, how does that work? How do people find items by style, recipient and occasion anyway. Don't all items come up that fit into a person's search no matter what was used for style, recipient and occasion? I don't quite understand all of that.

What about using a style for titles, descriptions, and tags? Were you told not to do that?

Re: Defining STYLES for Jewelry...

I was simply told never to specify the item style, because you will narrow your search results. And to also not fill in who the item is for, for the same reason. These fields are to be left blank.

If you think about it, how often do you put your style into Search? You are more likely to put in what you are looking for ie. item and colour.

Also, you would normally put the style in your description, so it would come up because of that. Say if it was for a wedding, surely you would mention that anyway. If you wrote it as style then it would ONLY come up if people particularly search for wedding.

As I said, it works for me. Try it with a couple first and see what happens. Also makes life much easier!! :)

Re: Defining STYLES for Jewelry...

I thought I had a thread marked with details of style definitions, but this is the closest thing I could find. I don't know if that helps you, and after reading this thread I may experiment in leaving that blank :)

Re: Defining STYLES for Jewelry...

I see your point about not choosing the pre selected syles even though I still don't know how that works, but I still think it's a good idea to put a style when appropriate, in the title and tags.

We are told to find our target market and bring them to our shop in order to make sales. So to me it seems logical to find that target market (when applicable) through style. If a person types in black and silver bracelet that could be anything and will pull up many, many items. But if I title my bracelet edgy black and silver bracelet then that will help bring it to my target market. And if someone doesn't narrow their search down to edgy then I will still have black and silver bracelet in my title for the broader search.

If you put the style in the description, that will help you get found with google (though you should still have it in your title too), but it won't help your product get found on Etsy.

I am going to try leaving the style settings blank though and see how that goes. So thank you for that tip.

Re: Defining STYLES for Jewelry...

@Annyse, what about type? You know at the top where you choose jewelry from a drop down menu, then you choose necklace, bracelet, etc, and then you can choose type such as beaded, chainmaille, metal, etc. Would it be best to leave that blank too?

Annyse, where and how do you pay for a shop critique?

Re: Defining STYLES for Jewelry...

Mary, there are many on Etsy, but I used the one that kept coming up in my circles and that was EurekaGuides. Cathy sent me plenty to work on, (about 20 pages) when I was convinced my shop was already perfect :) and I am still working on it. Some of it was standard stuff that I guess everyone gets, but there was also alot of things specifically for my shop. It has definately helped and I would recommend!
