Customer entered coupon code in 'notes to seller', how do I do a partial refund?

A customer made a purchase and used a coupon code, except they entered the coupon code in the 'notes to seller' instead of the coupon code field. What do I do now?

I've already worked out the difference that they need to be refunded but not sure where to start. Do I do this on Etsy or Paypal? Or both? And how do I even go about doing this? I couldn't find anything in Etsy help about it.

Any suggestions are *greatly* appreciated!

You don't need to do anything in Etsy if they paid via Paypal. So depending how they paid, there should be a link in the Paypal Email or on the Etsy Receipt to issue a partial refund.

Yes, you can do the refund in Paypal. The only unfortunate thing is that you still have to pay etsy fees based on the whole price of the item. But that shouldn't be too much of a difference.

This is great, thanks. Does it matter though that the etsy bill will say that they paid the whole amount, when in fact they didn't?

The only way that it matters is that you have to pay the Etsy fee on the entire amount.
