Custom Listing Question

When you have a possible customer contacting you about purchasing and you are able to fullfil the need/desire, do you go ahead and make a custom order or do you wait to have them get back to you that they are ready to purchase? I don't want to be pushy so I normally ask for them to let me know unless they sound certain to purchase.

Any thoughts?

Re: Custom Listing Question

Create a custom listing. Once you receive payment, make the item.

Re: Custom Listing Question

Hi Meredith,
I usually provide a link that has a listing with the terms of the order and when they pay then do it.
Make sure that you have time frames for making, postage, colours, size and other relevant stuff in the listing.
happy new year

Re: Custom Listing Question

Hi Meredith!

I do lots of custom orders and if someone settles on something, I generally go ahead and create the listing and send it to them in our Convo/email. Sometimes it gets tiring going back and forth (not for me but I fear that it does for my customer), so I just create it and let them know that it's waiting there for them. What's the worst that can happen? You lose 20 cents. I'll usually say something like, "Here's your custom listing and it'll be waiting there for you when you're ready. If you've changed your mind, that's not a problem at all, just let me know." Then thank them for working with me. Good luck! Here's hoping you seal the deal!
Nicky :)

Edit- I read your original post and it seemed you were asking whether or not to go ahead and create the listing without the official nod from the customer... However, like the other gals have said, I NEVER order or manipulate materials until the listing is paid in full.

Re: Custom Listing Question

Gena Divine from BakeAllTheThings says

______________
Typically this is true. For me, it's not. I start creating immediately(if it's not personalized). My items are easily listed and sold to someone else. So, for me to create something without a payment is just like me making a regular banner I would list in my shop. The only difference is, the person requesting it has pointed me in the direction of color. If they don't buy, which has never happened, I will just list it with the rest of my items.

Re: Custom Listing Question

"Can you make it this way?"

"Yes, I absolutely can; here are my fabrics/threads/color choices/fonts (if personalizing), etc."

Followed by the link to the custom listing.

Not pushy at all :)

Re: Custom Listing Question

Thanks for the thoughts.

Like many have said, I also don't start on an order until payment/order has been made. I'm particularly interested to see how everyone proceeds when interest from possible customer. Thanks!

Re: Custom Listing Question

I do it like Chris, I ask if they want me to make a custom listing unless they are return customers that I know well.
