Curious Question

Do you find the majority of your sales comes from other Etsy sellers or non-sellers?

Who sees our treasuries besides other Etsy sellers?

Re: Curious Question

Almost all of my sale are from people who are not sellers.

Treasuries are pretty useless.

Re: Curious Question

mostly non shop owners...but there ARE folks who sell here but use a second account to purchase.
Maybe not as much now but the old review system sucked...my one and only negative review was where I was the buyer(and I didnt do anything but give a well earned neg to the seller) but it didnt look that way on the stats.

As far as treasuries, well it depends upon how well it's promoted. If your put in one....help out share it around pin, stumble, fb, hold ctrl and click.
Ideally if all 17 people involved did this...it would get seen by plenty of folks.
AND it gives it a better shot at the FP...and you sure as heck get plenty of buyers seeing it there.

Re: Curious Question

The majority of my sales come from non-sellers. And as far as treasuries go, I think they are useful for "getting seen" and showing up in activity feeds and expanding reach. I think non-sellers see treasuries if they are following a seller who is featured in that collection - not sure?

Re: Curious Question

Non sellers, certainly, and about a third of my customers are new to Etsy, generally having signed up that same day.
I think it's probably because sellers are more focused on selling their products than buying from others, which is a shame, but I'm guilty of it. I buy on Etsy a lot but only really as gifts and stuff. When it comes to buying things for myself...well it rarely happens despite the fact that I could list ten things off of the top of my head that I would LOVE from Etsy!

As for treasuries, shoppers use them for themes and items related to one another. My fox jar necklace has been in numerous fox-focused treasuries so it's safe to assume that if someone wants foxes, then a treasury like that would be the jackpot for them. Same goes for colours or beach-related items, for example. Then there's the obvious factor of the front page.

Re: Curious Question

I'd agree the majority of my sells come from the general public! But as Etsy crafters/sellers I think we appreciate the world and skill that goes into the many shops here and have no problem supporting each other.

Do you have any idea why some sellers may use a different account to purchase?

Lawrence Naff from KiyoStone says
Do you have any idea why some sellers may use a different account to purchase?
----------
There are several reasons, but for me, if I want to give a review of the product, I'd rather it not be so obviously linked with my shop. So I've started buying from one of my other accounts. Technically, if someone wanted to, they could dig and figure it out, since my other accounts are disclosed, per guidelines. But it's not handed to them. I want my activity as a buyer separate from my business.

Re: Curious Question

About 30% of my buyers are other Etsy sellers several of whom have told me they've purchased after seeing my item(s) in a treasury. Then I've had buyers who signed up the same day just to purchase an item. I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to it. I personally purchase a LOT from other Etsy sellers.

Re: Curious Question

The reason sellers use other accounts is because there used to be buyer feedback - so if you (as a buyer) had a problem with a purchase, you couldn't leave honest feedback if you purchased from your seller account, because you'd risk retaliatory negative feedback which would reflect on your shop (even though it was not your shop at all, but you as a buyer).

Seemed like too much trouble for me but I understand the impulse.

We sell things that are geared towards the kind of people who sell on Etsy and the majority of our buyers are not sellers here.

Treasuries are mostly useless unless you are on a top-notch FP treasury team, and even then I think it's probably mostly a wash.

I used to be on one of those teams; I made something like 50 treasuries a month, or more (sometimes 10-15 in a day). I was on the FP a number of times in that span, and it increased views and sales but not by enough for the number of hours I was putting in.

Re: Curious Question

I opened an account with Etsy about four years ago to buy some cute buttons I found during an internet search. A couple of years later I opened my first shop. I kept my first account (I call it my buyer's account) for convenience. I want to keep accounts, receipts, payments, etc., separate. In my case, it had nothing to do with leaving honest feedback. I had that account for about two years before I opened my shop. I have had two or three bad experiences with items I have purchased, but the matter has always been resolved satisfactorily after I contacted the Shop Owner.

Through the years, I have purchased over 1,000 items from other Etsy Sellers. They probably do not know I am an Etsian. Whenever I need something, I search Etsy first, before going elsewhere.

Regarding Treasuries, I sold a high-price (to me) item precisely because somebody included it in a Treasury. I sent a convo to the curator and thanked her for my sale.

I have not made many Treasuries, but bought a couple of items from the Shops I checked out in the process of preparing a Treasury. Go figure.

So, bottom line, in my opinion, I think a lot of Etsians are buying from each other. I know I do.

Re: Curious Question

Most of my buyers are non-sellers. Many of which open accounts shortly before purchasing, so I wonder if they see the items on another site (like pinterest or facebook) then find them on etsy.

As far as treasuries, they are fun, and a pretty good promotional tool, but I have yet been able to contribute a sale directly to being in a treasury, and I haven't purchased an item just from seeing it in a treasury.

Re: Curious Question

I have bought more from Etsians than I have sold. Never needed to leave neg feedback and had not considered the consequences if I needed to. Something for me to think about.

I enjoy curating treasuries but I don't think they do much good.

Re: Curious Question

Very few of my customers are Etsy sellers, but my demographic is not really the Etsy demographic, my typical buyer is male 15-30, not the etsy norm.

I think the majority of my customers are non-sellers. Many of them join Etsy the day they make their purchase (this always makes me smile when I discover it - how flattering!).

However, I think most of my facebook followers are fellow Etsy shop owners!
