Credit Card Readers

Other than Square.com, anyone have suggestions for taking credit cards in an arts fair situation? Square's terms and conditions gives them the right to inspect my business location (my home). Not ready to give up that right quite yet, without a warrant.

Re: Credit Card Readers

Same here. It's definitely not a concern for me. I love square.com!

Re: Credit Card Readers

PayPal will soon have a card reader available. I signed up to receive notification when it comes out. It seems like a good alternative (although I love square) and will go directly into PayPal.

Re: Credit Card Readers

I never understood how to get my PayPal money out, so I use it for purchases, but if my business takes off, one can only hope, I would rather use something else. I use regular charge services for shows and would not consider a PayPal option.

Re: Credit Card Readers

Except Paypal will charge 30$ a month plus fees. I dont do enough shows to pay that kind of money

Re: Credit Card Readers

Some people use intuit or propay instead of square.
I use square. I don't do enough business right with it now that they would care to come and inspect my business location.
This has lots of info from people who use different kinds of credit card receivers.

Jeanie Frias from MayKnart says
Square's terms and conditions gives them the right to inspect my business location (my home)
----------------------------
Well that would be a real stretch with the thousands of users. I think that is a CYA just in case they suspect someone is using it to sell drugs or Sex.

but Paypal also has a reader now as well as Intuit. But I will stick with square. It has been a great solution

Re: Credit Card Readers

Definitely Square. I tried ProPay before I got Square, and will never go back. Their rates are some of the best, and I've never been anything but happy with their service.

Re: Credit Card Readers

I just signed up with merchantwarehouse.com. I picked them because I went to a website that reviews credit card processors (which someone here on Etsy recommended), and it was ranked #1 by a mile. They don't require a contract, it's month by month.

Re: Credit Card Readers

Thanks for the other suggestions. I'll check them out.

I agree that it is a long shot that they'd care to inspect my business, I don't really worry about that. But I do worry about signing away that kind of right, under any kind of situation, however unlikely.

Couldn't find a card reader on paypal - just an option (for $30/month and a credit check) to be able to take credit cards by phone, then enter the info at paypal.

Re: Credit Card Readers

PayPal does offer a debit like card that is associated with your PayPal balance. We use it to make purchases (credit card style) for we need for the store (i.e. yarn, material, labels, etc). As long as you use like a credit card and do not enter a pin there are no fees assoicated with the use.

I did register to use the PayPal card reader, however, it will not work with my android style phone. We went to Sqaure.com and orderd this card reader and so far so good.

Re: Credit Card Readers

I'm another Square fan...I've used it a couple of times this spring and I love it. Super easy, no harsh fees and my customers think it's the coolest thing.

Go for square, you won't be sorry!

Re: Credit Card Readers

I've actually been meaning to post this for a while. I just signed up for Intuit. They are ranked second behind Merchant, and FAR AND AWAY higher than square. You don't even have to have a smartphone! You can key in your entries for a slightly higher fee, no contract, and you can opt for a monthly fee with a smaller percentage rate or no fee with a slightly higher percentage rate. I'll keep you posted how things go!!!
