Creating Titles for Better SEO

Okay, so I have been changing titles, trying to get my photos listed on page one, rather than say page 2, 3, or 4.

I went from a title such as

"New Mexico Winter Color Sunset 8x10 Fine Art Sunset Photography Print" to....

"Sunset Photography Print 8x10 Fine Art New Mexico Winter Sunset Landscape Photography Print.

After all of this changing and time consuming work, when I search for sunset photography print, it still shows up on pages 2, 3, or 4.

I don't understand. Other listings don't even have sunset in the first 4 words and they are on page 1.

Any thoughts?

Re: Creating Titles for Better SEO

I am curious as to this thread as I am finding similar frustrations in moving my pieces up the search engine display pages...
it seems silly to have a listing titled "pottery, pottery, vintage pottery, pottery "
The Tags seem to be pretty important too - as well as the first sentence of the body.

Why are "Vintage Cape Cod" items ahead of my Vintage Capes (4 of them)? I feel your pain.

Re: Creating Titles for Better SEO

Have you tried words like nature, scenery and landscape? I would type something into the search bar and see what suggestions it gives you. My current computer is very slow and the search bar doesn't do this, but if I had a faster connection, I'd give you suggestions based on this.

Also, it helps to mention the same words in both your titles and tags. Don't know if you're already doing this, but if you have "fine art" in your title, make sure it's somewhere in your tags, as well. Check your Shop Stats to see what words are bringing people to your shop. I also use Craftopolis.com to see what exact words are drawing people to specific, individual items. This requires a Google Analytics account, though.

Also, page 2 isn't bad!

Re: Creating Titles for Better SEO

Well, I realized if I make my search a tad more specific, such as "Southwest Sunsets", I am all over the first 1-2-3 pages. So that is good. I do try to match up my titles with my tags too.

I am just not sure why others who don't have great titles are still at the top, it makes me wonder....

Re: Creating Titles for Better SEO

I have been told to use what your item is in the first word. Like "photo" then describe with the sunset. Google and Etsy look a the first 4 words. Now I don't remember for sure, but I think I remember reading when they changed to relevancy that the items would rotate so people wouldn't get stuck on page 56 like before. Before if you didn't renew constantly you were buried in the pages. I know for my own items some days I am on page one and some days I am on page 23 for the same item so I think it is from rotating. Don't know for sure. I know that tags are extremely important. Page 2 or 3 is pretty good for you I think. :)

I'm having the same frustrations. I listed a blank journal (those were the first words in both the title and the tags) and jewelry listings were coming up before my item! I just don't get how this relevancy works.

Re: Creating Titles for Better SEO

It is irritating. I try to make the first three or so words of my titles how customers would describe my items, but still when I search for them, a lot of them are on the second page or so... For example, I listed my falls first leaf photograph as "Autumn Leaf photo", I'm thinking how much more general can you get? And still on the 5th page :P
