Could I be doing something wrong?

For the past week I have added new items, changed titles, reworked phrases, descriptions and tags...and my views have gone down! I have studied and read about SEO till it's coming out my ears and spending hours for the past 5 days reworking my shop.
I just don't understand it... thoughts anyone?

I am new to this but what was told to me yesterday was your first 3 words are very important. They should reflect what your customers would type in to search for your item. HTH

I trust that you have religiously followed all etsy tips about improving your shop.
Perhaps, you should post to Etsy Site Help on this issue.

Re: Could I be doing something wrong?

I'm certainly no expert but I have read a lot about titles, tags and SEO. I have also received some very valuable advice from team members to help me tweak my listings so that my views have improved quite a lot.

I noticed that in many of your listings your first three words do not necessarily discribe what the item is. For example your Yellow and Black Choker, (beautifuly btw) the first three words are Yellow and Black...Looking at the picture there are black beads but it is mostly yellow or golden looking. Perhaps golden bead choker, or golden statement choker-I would try avoiding using "and" especially within the first three words. Also the tags should match words or word phrases in your titles. Many of the tags for your choker are not included in the title.

I hope this helps a bit.

Re: Could I be doing something wrong?

Might I use these earrings as an example - http://www.etsy.com/listing/40378706/rose-quartz-pink-blush-dangly-earrings

The first three words are the most important here on Etsy searches so those words should tell the customer what the product is. With these earrings the customer isn't told that until the 6th word. Using the color is a great word so I might retitle these earrings like this - Pink Quartz Earrings Dangly Antique Gold.

Restate your titles in the opening sentence of your listings and again three times throughout the descriptions if you can. I always list my tag words in the order of my title with multi word tags preferred. With these earrings I would use Pink Earrings, Pink Quartz, Quartz Earrings, Antique Gold Earrings...

I would also suggest getting the backgrounds of your photos all the same color - either the cream or the white - that will give your shop a more unified look.

I didn't look at your shop announcement, but that should state what your products are as your announcement is also part of searches.

Hope each piece of advice you are given is a help to you!

Re: Could I be doing something wrong?

This is great advice, I don't think I realized it was only the first three words. I'm going to work on retitling some of my items too today!
