Conversation request

Today i had a convo from a person requesting the exact color of one of my fabrics..I told her the color as listed in my listing and she again replied with the same message asking what the color is exactly called. . I again told her the color . The picture of the item shows the color well. I feel she is trying to copy my item exactly . what do you think...

Re: Conversation request

It sounds to me she is just wanting to know what the fabric name is, I would tell her that you would be happy to send her a sample of the fabric for a small fee that would be deducted from the total if she decides to order a blanket.

Re: Conversation request

Sounds suspicious. You could respond with something like, As in my previous, the color is pink. Do you have any other questions I might be able to help you with? You are being polite, but not letting her (or him) take advantage of you. Maybe she is hoping you give away the fabric name or something - not cool!

Re: Conversation request

Basically that is how I responded. she said she needed the exact color to know if it matched her daughters room .....I told her hot pink not a light pink. and thanked her for her interest.

Re: Conversation request

I get these all the time. People want to know what they are buying, if things will match. Sometimes, it's pretty hard to tell the exact color from a picture, even if you have good ones. I usually go through google images (I search "hot pink") and find the closest match to what I have in hand and send the image. People are usually very grateful.
But, on the other hand, she asked the same thing twice, so that's weird a bit..

Re: Conversation request

I say if she wants to know the name of the fabric that is all she wants, I really don't think she is interested in your product

Re: Conversation request

Sounds like she may be looking for the exact name or product number listed on the bolt of fabric.... maybe she wants to go look for that same exact fabric to make something for her daughters room herself?

Re: Conversation request

She might be trying to figure out, too, if the product would look right in the room; you could always offer to have her send in a paint color sample that she is trying to match and you can identify any products you have that would match, or offer to make a cutom order for her that would match.

Re: Conversation request

I agree that you could offer to send a small sample of the fabric - this might help determine whether she genuinely just wants to match a colour or not.

Re: Conversation request

It could be either situation. Even if you were to ask, you'd never really know. Treating every conversation as an opportunity to build relationships is important. But you are under no obligation to provide your sources. I think offering to send her a small fabric sample is an excellent solution.

I'd have no problem saying; "I'm sure you understand, I don't divulge my fabric sources. However, I am happy to supply you with a sample and the information on the fabric content."

Re: Conversation request

I agree that offering to send her a small swatch for the cost of postage is a good idea. Who knows, she might be legit, and that would allow her to really see if the item would match. Just don't include the part of the selvedge that divulges the manufacturer name!

Re: Conversation request

I'm with Christina - colors vary from monitor to monitor, depending also on the photography and editing. It's very hard to tell if the item you're looking at described as "plum" will match the plum cocktail dress or purse you have at home.

Especially after having tried and failed to match dye lots, I am always EXTRA careful with what I buy online now.
