Contacted about blog features, contests, and giveaways?

Lately I have had several people contact me about featuring one of my products in their blogs. Basically I would send them a product and they would do a write up about it on their blog to generate traffic to my shop. They keep the product for their time. My question is has anyone actually had any success in participating in this? Has is really generated traffic or resulted in sales for you?

I've gotten a few of those and turned them down. Maybe that's a bad thing, I don't know, but it made me leary. I'm interesting in seeing replies to this too..

Make sure the blog has a huge amount of traffic and followers that are in your target audience. Otherwise, you probably won't get much out of it.
Trust me, I learned the hard way. :)

I haven't accepted any offers...like HiddenGrins I was very leary of it. I did check out the blogs and the latest one for instance had a very high amount of followers. I still am not about it though. Which ones to accept (if any) and what to expect to get out of it.

I wouldn't. I think it's best to just wait it out. :) Unless you find a blog that you know is the right fit for you amazing products!
BTW I love your shop!

Absolutely agree with hopskipjumppaper! If the blog doesn't get at least a few hundred visits a day, if they don't have at least 1,000 subscribers, and if they don't have a specific topic or if their topic has nothing to do with your products, just turn them down.

As a general rule, I've been told that you can only expect, at maximum, 10% of any blog readers to follow up on a post and actually look at your website or products.

And only 10% of those people who look at your product are likely to buy.

That's a whopping 1% of the people who read the original blog post. And even that is a best case scenario. If a blog's only got a couple hundred readers, you would be giving away a free item to get *maybe* 2 sales. And again, that's best case scenario.

DaintyChain, thank you for the info. So I wonder if those stats are correct for something as general as jewelry or clothing (something anyone would be intersted in anytime) how would that effect the numbers for what I sale... which only fits if you are gearing up for a new baby. Pretty sure I would just be giving away product. Guess thats why it's a giveaway. hmm.

I have submitted a link and photos from my shop to other's blogs but never had anyone ask for me to send them a free product. That just sounds wrong somehow.
