Conducting a successful blog interview

What tips do you have on conducting a successful blog interview?
I hope to start doing interviews on my blog: givethemcolor.blogspot.com. But I'm not quite sure how to make the interview engaging and worthwhile. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Deborah

Re: Conducting a successful blog interview

As a reader, I like when the person being interviewed answers off the wall questions, not necessarily related to the shop/product/promotion. It makes the interviews more entertaining. A little nonsense now and then is pleasant.

Jeni,
I agree, you don't have to stick completely to the topic at hand. Thanks!

Anyone else?

I would just echo what Jeni said. Throw in some entertainment to keep your readers engaged. Also pictures, people love pictures. When I'm skimming through the front page looking for blogs to read, I hardly ever click on the ones with no pictures.

Here is an example of an interview I did on my blog:

I agree with Jeni- make the interview light and fun! Include question about their shop AND their life. Throw in fun questions.

Megan,
I agree about the picture thing, without pictures blog posts seem kinda boring.

Samantha,
That Post is very helpful, it gave me an idea of how to lay out my interview!

Thanks,
Deborah

Re: Conducting a successful blog interview

Good photos, definitely.

I also like reading interviews with questions more about the artist's life and inspiration and not necessarily promoting their stuff. Kind of counter-intuitively it makes me more likely to check out their work than someone who talks solely about selling and their shop!
