Common Courtesy?

Is it not common courtesy to favorite someone's shop when you see they have favorited yours?
I feel as if I have marked about 30 in the past few days, and I get barely anything back....I know for some that could take a few hours just going through and favoriting back all who favorited you, but come on.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I haven't favored peoples shops just because they favored mine.
I would personally like people to favor my shop because they dig what my shop is and has to offer rather than out of obligation.
I think it is setting yourself up for disappointment if you are liking peoples shops just to get Likes back.
IMO

Re: Common Courtesy?

no, a favorite is basically just a bookmark :) Favorite all the shops you like, but there is no expectation that they will do the same for you (or even notice). Likewise, if you purchase from someone's shop they would not be obligated to reciprocate.

Re: Common Courtesy?

nmb, I suppose it would seem the thing to do. Heart someone who has hearted your shop. Although in the beginning I found that "bead" seller's hearted my shop for other reasons.....if you get my drift.

I actually only heart those items that I feel I would purchase.
I don't like getting spam from a seller that I have hreated, especially when their reply is

"Discount today only for those who have hreated my shop"

Re: Common Courtesy?

I heart shops and items because I plan on purchasing from them at some point, usually when I can afford to. Not because I'm expecting hearts back, I would rather have real, potential customers hearting my shop.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I agree with what everyone else is saying. I've never hearted a shop in hopes that they would heart me back, because that's not really what it's about.
And I would probably be really disappointed with that expectation /:

And like rowan300 said, it's way better to have someone heart you because they genuinely like your products and just happened to find you than to be hearted out of courtesy.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I only favorite shops and items that I want to personally bookmark. I use my favorites to see the items I like and might want to buy later. If I favorited everyone shop I came upon my favorites would be no different than just searching randomly on etsy.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I favorite shops that I think I will use in my treasuries to help promote those shops. Usually they are shops that I really like their items. Some shops I am not interested in. :)

Re: Common Courtesy?

It is nice if you want to heart back, but not a requirement, nor should it be expected.

I'm a random hearter.

Re: Common Courtesy?

No, when you heart someone or something, you should not expect a heart back. It's not a promotional tool. . .

Re: Common Courtesy?

I only favorite them back if I honestly like their shop or more than one item back. I don't just do it out of some obligation.. I don't want to have shops on my favorites unless I plan on going there for some reason.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I only heart what I truly love. Since most of us have our favorites available to the public, I think it is a relflection of our taste. If someone wants to do a little "research" on me or my shop, I would like the information they find to be accurate.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I only heart/favorite/circle shops that I like and/or want to buy. It's not a marketing tool for me. I do check out the shops that favorite me, but I won't favorite them back unless I really like their items (sometime I just favorite cool stuff) or want to buy their items in the future.

I only heart what i like or would like to buy. I would rather others hearted me because they like what they see in my shop.

I feel hearts in my shop is a marker of the quality and the popularity of the shop or items in the shop. I feel its an indication that I am doing something right. Less hearts indacte that I need to reconsider the choice of item, layout etc.

Re: Common Courtesy?

hyou heart a shop only when you really like it and you admire it. At least this is what i do. Besides hearts have nothing to do with sales.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I only heart shops that I'm really interested in - it's not a "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" deal.

Re: Common Courtesy?

Motivation is the key here, if you favourite shops only to get hearts back that sort of thing undermines the whole concept , sincerety counts

Re: Common Courtesy?

Interesting responses....it's not like I was hearting all kinds of stuff I don't like, I do only heart what I truly like, and yeah, I guess ya'll are right, there's no obligation to heart back if I'm being sincere and only hearting what I truly like or would share with someone else.

Thanks for all the input!

Re: Common Courtesy?

I also only favorite shops that I hope to buy something from some day. I will, however, add someone to my circle if I see they added me to theirs - don't know if that's common or not. I would also hope that somone only favorites my shop if they have an interest in buying something rather than out of courtesy.

Re: Common Courtesy?

I've never thought of it as common courtesy to heart back. I'd only want others to heart me if they genuinely wanted to, and I do the same.
