Colours for 2015

What do you predict will be the hot colours for 2015?

I make baby blankets and my biggest sellers this year were the rainbows.

Re: Colours for 2015

Pantone's website is a good place to see what the upcoming trendy colors will be. Their 2015 color of the year is "Marsala" - kind of a red brown color that Etsy usually calls "oxblood."

Re: Colours for 2015

I wonder how long gray and yellow chevrons will last. I swear, if you used that theme on a piece of old scrap paper and called it art, it would sell like hotcakes!

Re: Colours for 2015

Interesting question. Some time ago I came across an article about colors + buyers' psychology + online shopping. The article was focusing more on the traditional colors and made some valid points. Then I had a look at my shop and some of these observations were actually spot on.

I don't look at what colors are trendy for a particular season as I tend to buy a variety of them and I love bright colors any season. But maybe going forward I should keep an eye on the hot ones of the season. The catch is though....if they don't sell, you are stuck with out of fashion items / colors. Can be risky.

Re: Colours for 2015

We as individual creators will most always flow in a direction of harmony that our products and personal style represent. Not everyone follows trend; thank goodness !!!!
But, with that being said, fashion/design is a good place to see where we can incorporate our livelihood within those perimeters to reach new clients.
Use complementary or contrasting colors to marry that color theme. Then it won't be 'trendy'. Pantone's color for 2015 marries beautifully with corals and pinks; Fabulous with baby blues and winter whites!
Very challenging color indeed; as this is not a great color for painted glass (big sigh)
You be the trendsetter! Here's a link to brighten your spirits:)

Re: Colours for 2015

The thing about using color *names* (following, for example, the Pantone color trend predictions) is that it's pretty easy to change just the words. Pantone says "scuba blue" will be hot in Spring 2015. Fine, it's a good color. Next fall it could be called "peacock" or "teal" or "blue green". (Depending on the monitor!)

Colors are colors. Light gray might be called "linen", "sand dollar", "glacier", "oyster gray", or "paloma". It's gray.

TheAs far as I can see, the only really handy thing about Pantone colors is that if we use their color-names, it's an additional way to be found.

Re: Colours for 2015

I don't follow much in terms of colour trends in my shop, BUT, I think a really good idea is to get hold of an ikea catalogue.... their colours/styles seem to reflect an aspirational (but attainable) look.
You also need to think that while mint (for example) was really big on etsy last year... its still filtering down to the high street a lot. So while we might think colours are done... for many folk they are not at all!

Re: Colours for 2015

I have found that people buy and wear neutrals about 20 to 1 over any colors. I will incorporate trending colors and other brights into my line. They get views and bring customers into my shop. But, I stock a variety of neutrals so customers find what they will wear.

Re: Colours for 2015

My number one selling color is WHITE, followed very closely by ivory. Now that I offer linen, natural/tan and gray are the best sellers there. Fortunately those are easy to find and timeless. I offer accents (ribbons and trims) in more 'trendy' colors which is easier on my bottom line and since they're smaller materials, it's also easier to store.

I didn't really feel a strong push for Radiant Orchid, or purple in general this year, so I don't know how much that really influences people in my niche.

I've had brides ask me to match ribbon colors by the exact Pantone #, because royal blue wasn't close enough. The vast majority of people aren't quite that picky, thankfully- because there aren't quite as many color options in ribbon and fabrics as they have in paint!
