Christmas items - deactivate?

I am wondering what are you doing with your Christmas themed items now, after Christmas? Do you deactivate them or offer discounts for a while? Do you leave those Christmas items for a long time or have already removed from shop?

This is my first time when I had Christmas item, so I already deactivated it, but what does other sellers?

Happy New Year, by the way :)

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I put my Christmas cards on sale and they sold the day after Christmas. I would say on sale until New Years, then deactivate and keep them till next year!

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I put my Christmas signs on clearance. I only have a few left, so I put them in a clearance section with my leftover fall and Thanksgiving signs. If someone buys them, great; if not, I'll return the prices to normal when the season rolls around next year. :)

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I just opened another shop. Once I move my inventory over, I'll have room to make a new section. I'm thinking about calling it seasonal vintage or holiday vintage. I'll then move my Christmas, Halloween and other holiday items in to that section.
I'm wondering if I should move birthday stuff over to this new holiday category or just keep in the general sections?

oh yes...Happy New Year everyone!

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

Speaking as someone who runs a brick and morter year round Christmas store. Those kind of items sell all year. Online I have noticed that the sales(even at full price) are still good after Christmas for about 1 month, but then slow up for a while until August.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I read another thread on this question where one suggestion was to have a "Christmas in July" sale with this year's holiday items. I thought that was a great idea.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I move them to the back of my shop but keep them active. If a customer buys a set of three bunnies in december, who knows what month they will buy Christmas items. :)

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

Marked down the balance of my Christmas dresses and tablecloths to ten dollars because I need room.

I say I need more storage space...husband says I need less junk.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I'd never deactivate. Just move them to the back pages and let them be. Whether you mark them down or not is up to you but if you do, change your category they are in to "Christmas Clearance" if that fits (may have to be holiday..or just clearance..I think you only get so many letters) Once they expire it is up to you whether to renew or not.

Can't sell them if they aren't up! I agree to keep them up and move them to the back.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I mostly sell Christmas items in my shop and I sell something nearly every week that is Christmas related. My largest sale ever was in March for Christmas ornaments (I was happy to have the time to devote to it in March... I might have had to turn it down if I had received in November simply due to lack of time and not being able to make 50 ornaments for one order). I have also been contacted my galleries, consignment, wholesale, blogs and magazines and they have all contacted me in May/June/July... those types of deals are planned well in advance of the holiday. I say keep them up... it doesn't cost much and your items can't be see or sold if they are not up for sale.

Good luck!

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I discounted some (but not all) of my Christmas items and tagged and titled them with "Boxing Day Sale." I haven't sold anything since right before Christmas but I plan to keep the Christmas listings until they expire. I'll decide at that point whether to relist or wait to do a Christmas in July promotion like Meredith suggested.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I would tag some with Orthodox Christmas, it is January 7.

I am getting swamped with orders.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I have heard magazine editors shoot Christmas like in May so there is another reason to have your items available.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

Thank you all guys for ideas!
Julia, I know that winter fashion photos are shooting in summer too, so maybe I had to leave my Christmas listings :D
Probably the best is to leave listings in some clearance section while it's still active and then maybe in July activate it again for Christmas in July and then comes 3rd option - next Christmas :)
Thank you all answers :)

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I leave all my 'holiday' related items in the shop year round. Most of my Christmas items sell best in August and September and since Christmas I've sold a few more.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

All my stuff is made to order so I deactivated the few Christmas items I offer from Dec. 8th -Dec 26th. Then, I reactivated them and moved them to the back page. I had to deactivate them because I knew I couldn't get them to buyers by Dec. 25th. A few people who found them on Wanelo or a treasury or somewhere still contacted me so they could order some for next year.

Re: Christmas items - deactivate?

I'll keep mine up, not planning on deactivating them.

@Sonja Lidner-Blanc: On your shop's home page, in the left-hand column scroll down until you see "Rearrange Your Shop". If you click that link it allows you to move items around in your shop. You could move an item from page 1 to page 4 through this way, which is what I would call "moving to the back of the shop". Good luck!
