Christmas in July?

Hello girls and guys!

This year I'm undecided whether to do Christmas in July discount or give an item when a customer spends a minimun in my shop (a special gift just for July)
Are you going to do the discount?

This is my first year on Etsy, so I completely forgot. I would love to do a special item for free.

I've found that to have a successful Christmas in July sale that I mark down my sale items in advance so that the buyer doesn't have to do anything special to make the purchase.

I'll also start marketing my sale about a week before the actual start date.

Not sure if I'll participate. I got SUPER excited about Black Friday / Cyber Monday in 2012, but it was nearly a waste of time. I only made ONE sale (about $55) to a peeved customer in Australia who told me she had to get up in the middle of her night to be at my sale when it started. (Sorry!) She bought 2 of 3 similar items ... then came back and bought the 3rd one after her first order arrived. LOL!

Like Tana, I was very excited for BF/CM 2012 and I sold nothing. It was a waste of time.
Since I really don't sell that much, I don't think I'll do anything for CiJ. Just stick to the plan I have now! :)

I've never had anyone use a discount coupon code. Not sure what I"m doing wrong. I've posted it on my fb business page, on the about section and included it with orders.

Did Etsy even do an official Christmas In July last year? I know there was one 2 years ago, but I can't recall if there was an official call for one last year?

I'm sorry about my ignorance but, how Christmas in July work on Etsy? I was thinking about creating some coupon codes for orders or custom requests placed on July, but your comments suggest something more organized that I don't know of...

Yes, the dates last year were 7/12 - 7/22, 2012.
This year it will be held 7/11 - 7/21, 2013.

I've gone back and forth on doing it, I decided since I don't really want people to rely on sales from me to buy that I'm not going to discount, but I still want to join in the fun. Especially since after August things get busy and holidays come fast, I'm going to 'celebrate' CIJ by posting one christmas item every day. That way I'm stocked up for the winter holidays and can focus on the other holidays as they come! I may throw in a freebie with every Christmas purchase too!

I think I'm going to try it, but without a coupon code...just put my whole shop or some of my shop on sale and reduce the prices...I haven't really had many people take advantage of coupon codes in my shop, so maybe if stuff is already marked down they will be more likely to buy?

I have a Christmas in July section in my second etsy shop. I noticed last night I already have views up and thing marked from that section. But in this shop nope, I won't have anything.

I'm with Goddess on this one, it's been a few years since etsy even supported this CIJ.
